HE DIED ON 2ED PASSOVER!

HE DIED ON 2ED PASSOVER!

THE SECOND PASSOVERThe Second Passover is a little known feast of the Old Testament. It was implemented by Moses at the request of certain obedient Israelites who did not want to miss the important celebration of Passover itself. They had been ceremonially unclean at first Passover and inquired as to whether or not they could still partake of the feast. The Biblical story occurs in Numbers 9:1-14 and should be read now. This passage contains important clues concerning who should partake of Second Passover today, namely those who understand that they ARE IN A FAR JOURNEY OR live in the perpetual state of being defiled by a dead body, by a carnal nature.Passover itself is really the preeminent feast of those who seek to overcome. The feast prophesied the sacrifice and crucifixion of Yahweh-savior  whereby His blood redeems Adam kind from the curse of death, allowing the angel of death to “pass over” us so that we can live in Yah’s presence. This is why yah commanded Israel in the days of Moses to place the blood of a lamb on their door posts and lintels. The Passover lambs were effective for the forgiveness of sins and the passing over of the death angel because their blood represented the blood of the Lamb of el, Yahweh Himself.

Yet, there is an important mystery hidden in the Second Passover. That feast relates to prophetic truth beyond our spiritual redemption in Yahweh shua. I can only find one instance other than the one above in Numbers 9 of an observance of Second Passover in all of Scripture. This is the account of Second Passover celebrated by King Hezekiah of Judah in 2 Chronicles 30. I urge you to read that entire chapter now and again when you finish this article because the whole passage deals with Hezekiah’s keeping of the Second Passover and includes many important prophetic truths.

The Biblical account of Hezekiah in 2 Kings, 2 Chronicles, and Isaiah carries an Overcomer, or Sons of yah, theme. The best place to gain an understanding of the Overcomers is in the second and third chapters of Revelation in the letters to the seven churches. Clearly messiah wrote those letters to Christians who were members of those churches. He makes it clear throughout these letters that only a small group of these congregations, a “remnant,” would ever qualify as Overcomers and thus partake of the rule and reign of His coming Kingdom. Many of his parables in the Gospels include this theme. The idea of an Overcomer as a specific type of believer is found throughout Scripture, Old and New Testaments. I cannot dwell more upon this idea here.

We see the Overcomer theme in the story of Hezekiah in quite a few verses. First, Hezekiah was an obedient believer according to 2 Kings 18:3-6. Second, when Sennacherib, king of Assyria, threatens to destroy Hezekiah and all of Judah, Hezekiah seeks Yahweh and He answers through His prophet Isaiah. Isaiah brings a word to Hezekiah prophesying Sennacherib’s destruction. See Isaiah 37:21-38. Part of this prophecy includes the following sign given to Hezekiah:

(Isa 37:30-32 NKJV) {30} “This shall be a sign to you: You shall eat this year such as grows of itself, And the second year what springs from the same; Also in the third year sow and reap, Plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them. {31} And the remnant who have escaped of the house of Judah Shall again take root downward, And bear fruit upward. {32} For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, And those who escape from Mount Zion. The zeal of  Yahweh of hosts will do this.”By comparing verse 30 above with Leviticus 25:11, we see that Yahweh here gives Hezekiah a jubilee sign. Israel was to neither sow nor reap each fiftieth year. The key aspect of the jubilee is found in Leviticus 25:13 where yah commands that in the 50th year “each of you shall return to his possession.” In the natural this meant that no man could lose his land, or real estate, forever. Prophetically, it means that mankind’s spiritual possession, his glorified body, will be restored to him on some future jubilee. Also, note the “remnant” theme here in Isaiah 37:31-32.Now it so happened that Hezekiah almost died of an infectious boil just after this mighty deliverance from the hand of Sennacherib. Isaiah tells the king to prepare his house for he is going to die. Hezekiah prays for his life, however, and Yahweh grants him an additional fifteen years. This is interesting for many reasons. One is that it fits in with the sign given above. Up to this time Hezekiah was childless. The line of David would possibly have ended if Hezekiah had died from his boil. The sign above, however, states that in the third year from the time of the prophecy, Hezekiah should sow and reap. Well, he did exactly that. In the third year thereafter his wife, Hephzibah, conceived.

Hephzibah is a prophetic name we also find in Isaiah 62:4 and speaks of the Bride of messiah. At the end of this third year, his son, Manasseh, was born. Manasseh, of course, is the name of Joseph’s son who, according to 1 Chronicles 5:1, received “the birthright,” i.e. the Kingdom. The birth of Manasseh thus speaks of sonship and the inheritance of the birthright. This relates to ruling and reigning with Christ in His Kingdom. Thus we see that the story of Hezekiah prophetically speaks of the “Sons of yah,” the Overcomers. It concerns our time today.

Now remember that it is Hezekiah who partakes of the second Passover and that he is the only person ever mentioned by name as having celebrated this feast. This uniquely relates the second Passover to the Overcomers. Also, since Hezekiah deals with a jubilee theme, this means that the second Passover also prophesies the glorification of the Sons of yahweh, that event that we have come to call “the sons of the most high. melchizedek”

On the other hand, I see that Josiah, who faithfully kept the first Passover in 2 Chronicles 35:1, represents a faithful, but late-blooming hebrew. Notice that he is not even aware of yahs Law until the 18th year of his 31 year ministry as king. When he does find the Law he obeys, but by then yahweh says that it is too late to avert His judgment upon his kingdom. I believe the same thing applies to our day. Most Christians have still not found yahweh’s Law. They misuse yahweh’s grace as a license to sin and call any use of yah’s Law “legalism.” They write books that undermine yah’s Law and  words

. Christians’ repudiation of the words and law of the messiah have led to the current “leavened” state of all the world, leavened by sin and false doctrine. It is too late now to avert yah’s judgment upon this “Mystery Babylon,” mankind’s governments and institutions. The time is late. A few saint’s, like Josiah did, are beginning to obey yahweh’s word. They are finding His Law. But, according to Matthew 25 we know that at some point there is no longer time to buy enough oil to qualify as a wise virgin and enter the wedding feast. I think the 1st passover Josiah kept represents this.

We may already have entered this late time, but only yahweh  knows who qualifies as a wise virgin and who does not. Josiah represents Christians who will not be counted as Overcomers, who will not receive their glorified bodies at the first resurrection.  and will not be allowed to minister yah’s truth in their natural bodies in the Kingdom Age. They will not live, but they will shall die. but to those that have solved the mystery of the second passover is the promise given, Isaiah describes as follows:

(Isa 65:18-25 NKJV) {18} But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, And her people a joy. {19} I will rejoice in Jerusalem, And joy in My people; The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, Nor the voice of crying. {20} “No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, Nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; For the child shall die one hundred years old, But the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed. {21} They shall build houses and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. {22} They shall not build and another inhabit; They shall not plant and another eat; For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people, And My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. {23} They shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the LORD, And their offspring with them. {24} “It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear. {25} The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, The lion shall eat straw like the ox, And dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,” Says yahweh.Josiah, like all Christians, partook of the first Passover, not the second. This is the only recorded Passover observed by a king of Israel or Judah. The first Passover, of which all believers partake, is the Passover of spiritual death. this  represents our spiritual rebirth. The death angel passes over us so that we do not die forever. In the natural, in Exodus, the death angel passed over the first born who partook of the Passover. The Egyptians did not partake of this Passover. Therefore, all of their firstborn died.

The second Passover, however, prophesies a different type of “pass over.” It is that represented by yahweh’s parable in Matthew 24:37-51. The interpretation of the one taken and the one left really does not matter here. I have heard various speakers refer to one or the other, the one left or the one taken, as referring to the chosen. The point is that at the second Passover, the ones who are not Overcomers shall be passed over, in a seeming reversal of the first Passover. The Overcomers, or first born of the Sons of God will be chosen to rule and reign with Christ. “Many are called, but few are chosen.” Thus the remnant, the Overcomers, the Sons of God, the first born, will partake of the second Passover in the sense that they will be chosen as such at the time of the prophetic fulfillment of this feast.

There is one other interesting point related to the second Passover. According to Leviticus 23:10-11 the priest was to wave a sheaf of the firstfruits of harvest of barley unto yahweh. This occurred on the “morrow after the Sabbath” during the “feast of unleavened bread” celebrated for seven days after Passover. 2 Chronicles 30 makes it clear that the feast of unleavened bread is also celebrated at Second Passover. Since the Jews measure time in lunar months, it so happens that every few years a month has to be added to the calendar to keep the months aligned with the seasons. They use the degree of maturity of the barley crop to determine when to add a month. If the barley will not be ripe for the Passover of the first month, then a thirteenth month is added to the year.

In essence, this pushes the Passover off to the second month of the new year (although it actually becomes the first month since a thirteenth month was added to the old year). My point is that this practice becomes a type of celebrating the second Passover and the reason for doing so is to ensure that the barley will be ripe for the wave sheaf offering. A careful reading of Scripture shows that barley is often associated with Overcomer themes, thus making barley itself a type of the Overcomer. The prophetic fulfillment of the second Passover, therefore, will occur when the barley is ripe, when the Overcomes will receive their glorified bodies and begin to rule and reign with yahweh.

the new testement is clear that the messiah himself did not die in the frist passover but did in fact die on the second passover. lets see if that is so as we study the word of those that were present at the frist passover as they plotted to kill him in the passover season.

In John’s gospel, chapter 11, we find yahweh-shua’s arrival in Bethany, a small village near Jerusalem, where he came to the sisters Mary and Martha who are grieving the death of their brother Lazarus that took place four days prior.  yahweh-shua had delayed his arrival in Bethany so that His raising of Lazarus from the dead would serve to glorify God and reveal who He was.  The time is now getting critical in yahweh-shua’s ministry.  For three years he has taught yah’s purpose throughout the region of Judea.  Though yahweh-shua’s ministry was centered around Capernaum, yahweh-shua visited Jerusalem during the feasts.  His close proximity with the Jewish leadership engendered conflict on each of these visits as the messiah truth taught a gospel of love and grace that refuted the legalistic and condemning practice of the Jewish leaders.  These leaders saw this self proclamied messiah as an uneducated cult leader who was leading people away from the Jewish law and out from under their authority.  They interpreted his theology as capital blasphemy worthy of death.  Consequently, each time we see an encounter between the messiah and the Jewish leadership we see such conflict, and the leadership retreats and rebuilds their capital case against Him hoping to put him to death.

Chapter 12 of john finds  the messiah still in the home of his friends Lazarus, Mary, and Martha in Bethany.  he is making preparations for his last entrance in to Jerusalem as He will be taking part in another Passover feast.

John 12:1-2.

Then Jesus six days before the Passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. 2There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.

The scripture does not record any of the conversations between Jesus and Lazarus’ family in the days following the raising of Lazarus from the dead, but one can only imagine the joy that was felt by Mary and Martha as the grief of their brother’s death and the hopelessness of their future instantly vanished at his resurrection.  As Mary and Martha saw their future restored and were thinking about the things that they would do, Lazarus had the unusual opportunity to do the same.  As each is sharing about their future, Jesus knew clearly what the nature of His future on earth would be:  He would be captured by the religious leadership that sought Him, and he would suffer a tortuous death.  The range of emotions present at this time would be extreme.

John 12:3.

Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.

Mary’s gesture of love is curious.  The imported oil that Mary used would have cost about 300 denarii, about a year’s wages for an average workman.  Because of its value and small size, many kept such oils as an investment that could be sold quickly when cash is needed.  As Jesus was reclined at the table, in the manner of first-century custom, His feet would be quite accessible.  Mary wanted to show her love and gratitude to Jesus for His part in the restoration of the life of her brother, so she took her vial of oil, opened it, and anointed Jesus’ feet with it.  Foot washing was a common practice in their culture, as people wore sandals as they traveled in the dusty streets.  The lowest servant would draw the task of washing the feet of guests.  Mary’s gesture goes far beyond even this ritual in its humility and expression of love.  Jesus’ feet would have already have been washed as He entered the home.  Now, Mary uses this every expensive oil to cleanse His feet.  The aroma of the oil would fill the entire room, and all who were present would witness this act of love and humility.

The oil that Mary applied to Jesus’ feet is also used to anoint the body of one who had died as they prepare it for burial.  It is unclear if Mary yet knew that Jesus was about to die, and within the context of her witness of the raising of her brother, it is quite doubtful that the idea entered her mind.  Mary would not have known the significance of her anointing of Jesus in the context of His coming death on the cross of Calvary.  Still, her expression of love was profoundly generous, and would have been noticed by all who were in the house.

John 12:4-6.

Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him, 5Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? 6This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.

Not everyone in the room was appreciative of Mary’s gesture.  Jesus knew Judas’ nature, and his upcoming act of betrayal (John 6:70).  What Judas lacked in an appreciation for human need he gained in his desire for financial success.  His interest in things financial gained him the task of holding and managing the treasury of Jesus and the apostles.  This close proximity to their money was a temptation that Judas was not wanton to overcome:  he helped himself to the contents of the bag at his own pleasure.  This act characterized Judas as a thief.  Judas’ concern for the expenditure of the oil was not related to its application to help the poor.  If the spikenard were to be sold, it would have added a year’s wages to his moneybag, providing him with more funds from which to pilfer.

John 12:7-8.

Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. 8For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.

Jesus’ statement clearly delineates the contrast between Mary’s devotion to Jesus and that of Judas.  Jesus’ statement may have even surprised Mary as He stated that what Mary had just done served a specific purpose:  to prepare Him for His upcoming death.  There is little question that with the cross of Calvary looming so near, Jesus’ mind was focused on it.  As Mary anointed Jesus’ feet He would have immediately recognized the appropriateness of her act, and at this first opportunity to speak, Jesus shared this with others.  Jesus’ was not making a disparaging statement about the poor, but rather than pointing out to Judas that if he really wanted to help the poor he could have been doing so at any time before, and will be able to continue doing so for as long as he walks the earth.  Judas’ lack of concern for the poor is clearly exposed.  Jesus then reveals the brevity of His own presence.  Though the poor will always be around, He will not.  Jesus told the people in the room that He would be dying sooner than they.  Little did they understand at this point, that Jesus was speaking of the events that would take place within a week, and little did Judas know that he would survive little longer when the consequences of his greed would devour him.

John 12:9-11.

Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. 10But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;11Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

The crowd that gathered at this time at this home in Bethany had come, not only to see Jesus, but to see Lazarus.  People had heard and witnessed Jesus’ power to heal, and many came to meet and speak to Lazarus.  Even today, if one were to return from the dead as some claim to have done, people will seek to learn through that experience and the survivor will be afforded a lot of attention.  This further inflamed the crisis that was brewing in the Jewish leadership.  They were witnessing more and more people coming to Jesus and his ‘blasphemous” doctrine.  Before Jesus came they were the proud carriers of the faith and were in total control of Jewish religion, culture, and teaching.  they were the center of their religious universe.  Jesus had severely eroded that position of power, and this event in Bethany only served to turn more people away from them.  At the rate that they saw their influence eroding and it was only a matter of time before they felt they would be completely overthrown.  Now they were faced with this man, Lazarus, who was giving a powerful testimony in support of Jesus, and he was bringing as many followers to Jesus this day, as Jesus was attaining Himself!  The religious leaders realized that the only way to quiet Lazarus would be to kill him, so they conspired amongst themselves as to how they would go about it.  One can only imagine the conversation among these religious leaders as they tried to figure out how to kill someone who had already died once before!  Surely, Jesus would just raise him from the dead again.  Certainly, they faced a most unusual dilemma, one for which they would shortly find a solution.

John 12:12-13.

On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

As Jesus entered Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover, he was accompanied by a large crowd that was made up of two groups.  When we observe the record made by the writers of the other three gospels (Matt 21, Mark 11, Luke 19), we find that one group were those Jews who had made the pilgrimage to Jerusalem to observe the Passover.  Travel was difficult in the first century, so typically, most of the people who came would have originated from the nearby region, including Capernaum where Jesus spent the large part of his three-year ministry.  These would have previously heard of Jesus, and many would respond positively to the knowledge of his presence among them.  The larger group that honored Jesus at the gate, however, was that which came with him from Bethany, the group that had either witnessed the raising of Lazarus, or those who joined shortly thereafter.  Consequently, the praise that was afforded to Jesus did not start at the gates of Jerusalem, but rather at the grave of Lazarus.  One can envision the town of Bethany emptying out to accompany Jesus and Lazarus to the City of Jerusalem.  Nothing like this had ever occurred before, and the leaders of the City were well-aware of this dangerous situation.

Jesus’ previous entrances to Jerusalem were wither quiet or almost secretive because, as we find in previous chapters, Jesus’ time had not yet come.  However, in Bethany Jesus stated that it was now His time, so there was no such need for secrecy.  However, the riotous nature of the crowd’s response at this point adds a new factor to the equation:  the power of the Roman leadership.  Rome was successful in holding many lands far from Rome due to the governmental structure that was in place.  Local communities were allowed to rule themselves under Roman supervision as long as the taxes were paid to Rome and the people were kept under control.   The presence of so many Jews in Jerusalem during the Passover had been considered dangerous without this new controversy.  Because of this, all of the local Roman leadership was in the city during the Passover, and the Roman guards were on alert for any problems.  Therefore, when this crowd entered Jerusalem with a controversial message, the the King of Israel (Psalm 118:25-26), or the “King of the Jews” is entering, the leadership that was responsible to Rome saw their future to be bleak indeed.  The chant made by the people was clearly a call for the Messiah.  They were shouting, “Hosanna”, which means literally, “Save us!”  In order to keep their positions, the Jerusalem leadership, both Jew and Roman, had to keep the peace, and now a crowd was advocating a new King over Herod.  This situation was exceedingly dangerous.

John 12:14-19.

And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, 15Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt. 16These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. 17The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. 18For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. 19The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

The synoptic gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke provide more details concerning the procurement and use of the donkey upon which Jesus rode into Jerusalem.  First, this form of entry fulfilled the prophesy of  Zechariah 9:9.  A king who would come to power would enter the gates on a horse, a “mighty steed,” and would be surrounded by his army.  Though we can see parallels in this entry, the steed was a simple donkey, and because of its youth, a small one at that.  The donkey was used by the poorest people, and a horse by the richest.  Jesus’ entrance on a donkey is an illustration of his humble roots, and also serves to dissuade any thought that His entrance is one that is militant in nature.  Jesus’ army is not bent on overtaking Jerusalem, it is simply focused on the person of Jesus as their Lord, and their King.  Jesus attained that position with the people, not from military junta, but by winning their hearts with his love and caring nature.  This was not the type of King that was expected by the Jews.  Still, however, this did not lessen the danger that the crowd presented to the religious leaders.  For three years they had observed the growth of Jesus’ following, and their inability to thwart it.  Verse 19 shows how they felt that in spite of all of their desires to stop this movement, and against all of their efforts to take action against it, they had gained nothing.  In their view they can see that the entire community, the “world,” is going to follow Jesus, and their future is about to radically change, and in their opinion, it is certainly not for the better.

Even as all of these events were transpiring, the disciples were so caught up in them that they did not quite realize the significance of them at the time.  Those who were most focused on the details of this event were those who witnessed the raising of Lazarus, and they kept a detailed record of these events.  It would be from this record that the disciples and others would later realize that they had witness the fulfillment of prophesy.  At the time, the disciples lacked the spiritual discernment that they would attain after Pentecost when the record of all of these events would come together in their memory to validate even more the nature, calling, and purpose of Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah.  Through that record, their confidence and faith would be affirmed all the more.

THE ANNUNAKI, ANCIENT GODS

Giant Hominoids

Who were the Annunaki?
Giant hominoids, standing on average 8 foot tall and far heavier and more muscular than humans, visiting Earth from their home planet, termed the Planet of the Crossing by the ancient Summerians.

This planet is known by many names – Niburu, Marduk, Wormwood, the Destroyer, the Red Star, and lately Planet X – but the ancient Sumerians termed it the 12th Planet, as they counted also the Sun and Earth’s Moon.
In the words of the Zetas:

ZetaTalk: 12th Planet, written Jul 15, 1995
There is life on the 12th Planet, the giant comet that causes the periodic pole shifts. The primary race is a humanoid race, who would be and have been considered giants by humans on Earth. There have been many excellent books written on this subject, and all hold a grain of truth.

They have a hierarchical structure. We would venture to say no true democracies as you might term them. However, there are among them intellectuals who have great compassion for their fellow creatures and fellow citizens and have great influence in their society and are revered.

The giant hominoids on the 12th Planet to this day dress in attire reminiscent of Roman soldiers. Rome in fact modeled after them, rather than these hominoids modeling after the Romans. The males find this to be comfortable attire that has a macho image. You might look to your ancient Greek and ancient Roman societies for a glimpse of their lifestyle, because these societies carried the influence of these visitors very heavily.

The giant hominoids were not grossly muscular, as mankind’s over-developed muscle men are. They were and are well proportioned, with rounded muscles but without the extreme bulging that muscle-men try to achieve. Nancy, who has met one, will tell you that they are extremely attractive, and proportional.

The giant hominoids had long faces, but the skulls that have been discovered and ascribed to aliens are not these giant hominoid’s skulls. The Easter Island heads were designed to intimidate, as this appearance in the faces was and is indeed their facial structure.

They do not sleep, because they do not have a rising and setting sun. They have a dimmer day. The glow in their atmosphere comes from rifts within their ocean. They are inhabiting a brown dwarf that is in a slow smolder.

It happens also to be a water planet, so that the places where the results of the chemical reaction that produces their light come through are in the deepest rifts closest to the molten core, and scattered throughout their atmosphere. Therefore they have a continuous light, equivalent perhaps to late in your day or very early in the morning. They do have their quiet times.

Their agriculture is much less extensive than the agriculture of Earth. They tend to gather rather than grow. There are fewer of them per square mile than your rich and fertile earth sustains.

Gold mining is occurring today on a moon of Mars, which has been approached by man’s probes and subsequently shot down by these hominoids who were not about to let themselves be filmed by their fomer slaves. This moon, Phobos, is rich in the minerals they seek.

12th Planet

Zacharia Sitchin, author of several books documenting what the anncient Summerians had to say about these giant hominoids, puts his finger on a key confirmation that they were indeed visitors from a planet ENTERING our solar system.
The evidence? They counted the planets from the outer edges of the solar system inward.

From Sitchin’s book,

The 12th Planet: Landing on Planet Earth
In February, 1971, the United States launched Pioneer 10. Pioneer 10 scientists attached to it an engraved aluminum plaque. It attempts to tell whoever might find the plaque that Mankind is male and female, etc., and that (Pioneer 10) is from the 3rd planet of this Sun.

Our astronomy is geared to the notion that Earth is the 3rd planet, which indeed it is if one begins the count from the center of our system, the Sun. But to someone nearing our solar system from the outside, the 1st planet to be encountered would be Pluto, the 2nd Neptune, the 3rd Uranus, the 4th Saturn, the 5th Jupiter, the 6th Mars .. and the Earth would be 7th.

We know today that beyond the giant planets Jupiter and Saturn lie more major planets, Uranus and Neptune, and a small planet, Pluto. But such knowledge is quite recent. Uranus was discovered, through the use of improved telescopes, in 1781. Neptune was pinpointed by astronomers (guided by mathmatical calculations) in 1846. It became evident that Neptune was being subjected to unknown gravitational pull, and in 1930 Pluto (was located).

Sitchin reports that their planet, today known as Planet X, only crossed our solar system every 3,600 years, the ancient Summerian SHAR.
Again quoting from his book,

The 12th Planet: Kingship of Heaven
The (12th) Planet’s periodic appearance and disappearance from Earth’s view confirms the assumption of its permanence in solar orbit. In this it acts like many comets. If so, why are our astronomers not aware of the existence of this planet? The fact is that even an orbit half as long as the lower figure for (the comet) Kohoutek, (every 7,500 years), would take the 12th Planet about 6 times farther away from us than Pluto – a distance at which such a planet would not be visible from Earth. In fact, the known planets beyond Saturn were first discovered not visually but mathematically.

The Mesopotamian and biblical sources present strong evidence that the orbital period of the 12th Planet is 3,600 years. The number 3,600 was written in Sumerian as a large circle. The epithet for the planet, shar, also meant “a perfect circle” or “a completed cycle”. It also meant the number 3,600. The identity of the three terms – planet/orbit/3,600 – could not be a mere coincidence. The reign periods (a Sumarian text) gives are also perfect multiples of the 3,600 year shar. The conclusion that suggests itself is that these shar’s of rulership were related to the orbital period shar, 3,600 years.

In fact, the Zetas report that Planet X, aka the 12th Planet, spends most of its time located more than 9 Sun-Pluto distances from us, halfway between our Sun and a dark twin, a binary sun, never seen because this binary has never lit.

ZetaTalk: Distance from Earth, written Nov 15, 1999
The 12th Planet is circling on a long [sling] orbit around the sun and its dead companion which lies at a distance some 18.724 times the length from the sun to Pluto. At the turn of the millennium the 12th Planet [was] still close to the mid-point between the two foci, as astonishing as this may seem.

It spends the vast majority of its time in an essential dither these two massive suns, picking up speed as it approaches, inbound, then zooming through, turning around after coming to a standstill after having overshot the solar system, then shooting through again and returning to the essential dither point between the its two foci.

What makes it move and progress from one sun to the next? The fact that there is a slight momentum.

Confirming what Sitchin states about a planet more than 6 Sun-Pluto distances away not being visible to man on Earth, NASA and JPL had to use an infra-red cloud above the atmosphere to locate it in 1983.

QUOTE from:

Dec 31, 1983 Washington Post :
A heavenly body possibly … so close to Earth that it would be part of this solar system has been found in the direction of the constellation Orion by an orbiting telescope aboard the U.S. infrared astronomical satellite. So mysterious is the object that astronomers do not know if it is a planet … so close in fact that it would be the nearest heavenly body to Earth beyond the outermost planet Pluto.

Pyramids

The Annunaki giants left behind to mine for Gold built astronomical devices to help their progeny know when the home planet would be coming back to collect the Gold.
Thus, the Giant Pyramids.

ZetaTalk: Great Pyramids, written Jul 15, 1995
Humans ponder the pyramids of Egypt and some similar structures in South and Central America, and wonder how early man could rise or move such large stones? Of course, they could not. Even today the mechanics would be imposing to the point of being impossible. The answer is, of course, that early man did not build these structures.

The Great Pyramids were built essentially as Navigational Devices. Why was it necessary to build such large structures as interstellar navigational guides? Because, in the locale, any astronomical device would be subject to shifting sands. The Great Pyramids, by their great size and weight, ensure stability.

All this just to sight an incoming comet, which makes its appearance on a regular basis and can be seen weeks if not months beforehand? The Great Pyramids were not used solely for sighting an incoming object, as their primary purpose was to act as a guidance system for the launches the exiled 12th Planet residents would make to meet their home planet.

This required precision, as their rockets were no more sophisticated than those used to boost man into space today, and once in space they simply coasted until drawn into the gravitational orbit of the water planet they owed their allegiance to.

They did not last on Earth from one appearance of the 12th Planet to another. Several generations would pass, the knowledge of how to read the stars and what the 12th Planet kingship expected of them passed from parent to child. Conscientious parents, aging and sure to die before their progeny could return to the home planet where they had royalty status, built a navigational system that was rock solid and sure – the Giant Pyramids.

Could the pyramids act as guides for the forthcoming reappearance of the giant comet, the 12th Planet? Many pole shifts have occurred since they were built, each time the crust of the Earth sliding into new positions. Legend has it that the Giant Pyramids originally pointed near the Orion Star System, and those legends have carried true to their origin. Where this is the original point convergence, the spot where the giant comet first looms into view, the Giant Pyramids no longer act as a guide in this matter.

There is a rumor that the Giant Pyramids point directly N/S, I did a web search for facts to substantiate this rumor and could find none.
What I did find was documentation that stated the pyramids were more or less N/S aligned, which is far from the being precisely aligned N/S.
Giant Pyramids hold clues that they were astronomical devices.

ZetaTalk: Secret Chamber, written Nov 15, 1995
All types of rumors abound about the Great Pyramids, some true, some false. It is known that a hidden chamber exists, accessible only via a tunnel so narrow that it might be traveled by a rat, yet so straight and long that it could only have been used for sighting.

The room has no other entry and was never intended to hold a solid object. A liquid, pooled in the shallow basin and reflecting light outward only when light shown down the long tunnel at that particular angle – the light from the approaching 12th Planet.

Various other sighting tunnels, as yet undiscovered, caught the reflected light. The liquid, of course, evaporated over time, leaving only the puzzle behind.

Monuments

The Spinix, was also by the hands of the Annunaki.

ZetaTalk: Sphinx, written Jul 15, 1995
The Sphinx is an example of a fancy burial chamber, a mausoleum of sorts, built by visitors from the 12th Planet who were into the sport of lion hunting. The grave was intended for a large and powerful male who stood tall in the circle of hunters, and all felt having his grave guarded by one of his conquests a suitable statement on his abilities and might.

As is often the case in the affairs of man, these plans went awry, as he was slaughtered by a rival and went unburied altogether, his body rotting under the sun, eaten by lions, no doubt.

Giants, as Ancient Gods

Being giants, compared to man, and techologically as advanced as mankind is today, primitive man considered the Annunaki to be gods.
As the iron suits worn by knights during the Middle Ages show, man did not have the stature in the old days that he does today.
This may be due to nutrition, as it seemed to change only recently.
There is a log cabin near where I live that has a doorway only about 5 foot tall.
Thus, for primitive man, an 8 foot tall Annunaki would indeed be a giant.

ZetaTalk: Ancient Gods, written Jul 15, 1997
It is not by accident that the hominoid inhabitants of the 12th Planet look and dress like Greek Gods, the Gods of Mount Olympus, as they are one and the same. Mythological stories about thunderbolts being thrown and travel through the clouds were based on the technological feats of these visitors from the 12th Planet, who had mastered the modern day equivalent of lasers and transporting an individual via a rocket booster strapped on the back.

To the primitive humans, who came barely to the waists of the strapping, handsome giants, they were gods. The Greek Gods are reported to be jealous and wrathful on the one hand, and kindly and mentoring on the other – a bit like people. Of course, they were no gods, any more than the humans of today, but their very human exploits are still reported with awe.

The legends among many human cultures regarding the exploits of the giant hominoids from the 12th Planet are in no small part due to the rigid rules these visitors had regarding interbreeding with the humans they used as virtual slaves. Kept apart from humans in this manner, they retained their edge, as they were by far the largest, the most technologically advanced, and the smartest hominoid race around.

Humans were, at the time, evolving from the cave man stage, with only an occasional genius born in the purely human strains. During the evolution of any species, intelligence is gradually increased due to genetic selection, the smarter individuals passing on their genetics due to their ability to evade danger and manipulate circumstances around them.

Thus, the discrepancies between humans and the visitors from the 12th Planet were many and significant. The stories generated by these tall, stately giants are almost endless in human mythology, but can be recognized, and differentiated from stories based on mere humans, by several distinctive traits:

* The gods were hominoid in appearance. Mere humans are not raised to the stature of gods by other humans, in spite of cultures which temporarily, and in a patronizing manner, call a reigning human king or chief a god.
* The hominoids were savage and exacting in their treatment of their human slaves, executing them for trivial infractions as examples and unforgiving no matter how trivial the affront or fervent the apologies.
* They had technology that seemed miraculous for the age, such as the ability to throw what appeared to be lightning bolts, or float along above the ground, or take off in rocket ships, or perform surgery and have the patient live.
* They lived apart from humans, in separate quarters or villages, yet visited their human slaves frequently enough that the slaves considered themselves unable to escape, in bondage without physical bonds.

Ancient Egyptian gods, ancient Babylonian gods, the Vizigoths of Germany, ancient Mayan and Incan gods, are almost to a one particular individuals from the 12th Planet royalty, stationed on Earth to supervise mining operations.

Stories about ancient rebels, notable for their stature and courage in battle, are also frequently based in part on the heritage from these visitors, as the rebel most often carried some genetics from the rape of a female slave who managed somehow to escape and bear her oversized infant alive.

The legacy today is genetically disbursed throughout the mid-eastern countries, Germanic countries, and the south seas, and is identifiable in those humans who simultaneously possess a large stature, a fierce temper, and strong musculature. Rather than being considered gods, they are often considered criminals.

David, of the David and Goliath tale, was such a half-breed, and thus was not a mere man challenging one of these giants.

ZetaTalk: King David, written on Jul 15, 1997
Like many humans who bore genes originating from the giant hominoids from the 12th Planet, King David was greatly admired for his strength and courage. That he took on one of these giants in the historic David and Goliath battle is not surprising, as he had a personal hatred of their domination, learned at his mother’s knee.

Female slaves, who were held in bondage to act as more than cooks and maids, became pregnant on occasion by the brutish and fiercely strong soldiers working in service to the mining outposts the 12th Planet rulers routinely put into place during every periodic passage of the 12th Planet through the Solar System.

Chosen for their unhesitating brutality in the line of duty, these soldiers were used to keep the human slaves that worked the mines in line, and seldom displayed any tenderness, not even to their lovers. Most often, a female slave that had been impregnated would die in childbirth, unable to deliver an oversized infant, taking her infant with her.

On rare occasions half-breeds survived, often without their mothers who bled to death or were torn beyond repair. David’s mother, like he, bore genes from a half-breed, and thus had the hips to bear the product of rape and live.

Beyond the great strength and unflinching courage which are traits of the giant hominoids from the 12th Planet, they have a singleness of purpose when aroused into anger. Thus he became a leader of the downtrodden, and was held in great esteem, this reverence expressed in devotion to his symbol, the Star of David. His lineage, the House of David, was noted primarily for its courageous leadership.

The fiece visigoths of Germany were another example of the stamp these giants had on the cultures they visited.

ZetaTalk: Visigoths, written on Apr 15, 1996
[Were] the giant hominoids from the 12th Planet the inspiration for the Viking Gods or tales of the Germanic Visigoths? The Viking Gods and Visigoths were fierce and did not back away once a conflict had begun. What were these giant hominoids doing in northern Europe? Exploring, in the same manner that took them to South American and thence across the Pacific. They were looking for gold, and went prospecting everywhere.

Giants

Could these be the Nefilm of the Bible, who fell to Earth from Heaven?
Per Zecharia Sitchin, one and the same.

Interview with Zecharia Sitchen: An Introduction
Electronic Magazine, Issue 17
ZS: Who were the Nefilim, that are mentioned in Genesis, Chapter six, as the sons of the gods who married the daughters of Man in the days before the great flood, the Deluge. The word Nefilim is commonly, or used to be, translated “giants.” And I am sure that you and your readers are familiar with quotes and Sunday preachings, etc., that those were the days when there were giants upon the earth. I questioned this interpretation as a child at school, and I was reprimanded for it because the teacher said “you don’t question the Bible.” But I did not question the Bible, I questioned an interpretation that seemed inaccurate, because the word, Nefilim, the name by which those extraordinary beings, “the sons of the gods” were known, means literally, “Those who have come down to earth from the heavens.”

CL: From the Hebrew word Nafal, which means “fall”?

ZS: Right. Fall, come down, descend. So, what did it mean? This led me to biblical studies and then to mythology and archeology and all the other subjects, including the study of ancient languages, which became my education and avocation. So, my research and my decision to write about it started with a question, Who were the Nefilim? All the ancient scriptures, the Bible, the Greek myths, the Egyptian myth and texts, the pyramid texts, everything, led to the Sumerians, whose civilization was the first known one six thousand years ago. I focused on Sumer, the source of these legends and myths and texts and information. I learned to read the cuneiform Sumerian texts and came upon their persistent and repeated statements that those beings, whom the Sumerians called Anunnaki, came to earth from a planet called Nibiru. The planet was designated by the sign of the cross and Nibiru meant, “planet of crossing.”

Myths

Where many myths about the Annunaki have a basis in fact, many others do NOT.
Many were based on swagger and bragging or simply a misunderstanding of their written or spoken word. Not much different from our own human cultures, it seems.

For instance, they had a normal lifespan, and did NOT have a Fountain of Youth.

ZetaTalk: Long Life, written Feb 15, 2002
The issue of the Annunaki living for thousands of years is a misunderstanding. When placed on Earth for a mining operation, they expected, as a culture and as a royal family line, to live that long, until the next passage. Poetry, misunderstood.

The visitors from the 12th Planet carried with them on their long sojourns to Earth a plant with medicinal qualities, native to the 12th Planet. They grew this in special gardens, shielded from the intensity of the Sun. This plant could renew their cellular structure, a type of growth hormone stimulant. They took this stimulant in the form of a bath, soaked in the plant.

Reputed to rejuvenate, it gave rise to the legend of the Fountain of Youth, but this is much exaggerated. In fact, it merely slowed a degenerative disease the transplanted hominoid suffered from while on Earth.

For instance, they did NOT genetically engineer man, though did tinker with genetic engineering as mankind is doing today.

ZetaTalk: Birth of Man, written Feb 15, 2002
As the largest and strongest hominoid race on Earth at the time, the giant hominoids from the 12th Planet were understandably arrogant about the effects their genetics had on the humans they bred with. There were two lines of hominoids left to run the mining operations between passages of the 12th Planet – royalty and soldiers.

The royalty interbred with each other, retaining the purity of their genetics, as without this purity their line would be forced to die out upon return to their home planet. The soldiers had lower class women from the 12th Planet available to them as sexual consorts, but often chose to create and maintain harems of human sex slaves of all ages and from both sexes.

Most often the offspring died during childbirth, due to the large size of the infants, but those who lived carried genetics from the father, which gave rise to the legend that these hominoids created the human race, which is simply not true.

The giant hominoids from the 12th Planet did not genetically engineer humans. They toyed with genetics, and thus the rumor has started. These giant hominoids were experimenting with genetics just as humans are now eagerly embracing such activity, as they were slightly ahead of humans on the evolutionary scale.

Thus when they toyed with the idea of what genetics could bring, doodling with the possible merging of animal and human species, this was taken literally by the people who are discovering these doodles now. Humans doodle, making pictures of eagles with lightning bolts in their talons. Does this mean that future generations should find these drawings and take them literally?

These were representations of a fascination with the possibility of what genetic manipulation could create. Mankind was created not by these hominoids, but by others who did the genetic engineering, and this erroneous myth should be put to rest.

Cruel Reign

As slave masters, the Annunaki used cruelty to control their slaves.
This is also of legend.
Beating hearts torn out of chests and displayed in the face of the still living victim.

ZetaTalk: Mayan and Incan, written Aug 15, 1995
High in the mountains of South America stand traces of ancient civilizations with similarities to the ancient Egyptian civilization. Structures built with large blocks of stone closely trimmed and fitted in much the same manner as the Great Pyramids. Space ports on high mountain plateaus, which can be seen clearly from space but scarcely discerned while on the ground.

In the steamy jungles further north lie the outlines of cities, abandoned for no known reason. The land is fertile, the water supply ample, yet they lie unattended and uninhabited. Legend has it that human sacrifices were performed atop pyramid like platforms, hearts ripped from the chests of the living, yet no trace of these practices exist among the local peoples.

Human sacrifices [were] never an indigenous practice, as this grim method of punishment was only used by the dominant visitors to keep their restive human slaves in line.

Destroying a city as revenge for a single gang rape.

ZetaTalk: Sodom and Gomorra, written Oct 15, 1995
Prior to recorded history there were many dramas that earned their place in history by their impact. They so impressed those who lived through them that the story was repeated, endlessly, until the era of recorded history arrived. As these dramas occurred before clocks and calendars were in use, no one is sure of the date, but the circumstances, often told in allegory fashion, generally arrived intact. Such is the case with the tale of Sodom and Gomorra, the city of sin destroyed, so the story goes, by the hand of God. This story has a basis in fact.

Sodom and Gomorra were two rather smallish cities in the arid lands of the middle east. In those days sodomy was a common practice among males without a mate. Young boys were sent out to mind the herds, and learned from the older boys how to use the sheep and goats they tended to relieve sexual tension. From there it was a short step to use each other when in the cities, and no one thought much of it. A favor among friends.

Such was the situation in Sodom and Gomorra, during the era when visitors from the 12th Planet walked the Earth. These visitors are strapping handsome hominoids, who themselves choose their sexual partners as they saw fit, and were in no way subservient to the puny humans they generally considered their servants and slaves.

In Sodom and Gomorra, the practice of sodomy [was] accompanied by domination games, [and] had gotten rowdy, with several toughs thinking they had no match. A single 12th Planet hominoid, traveling with his entourage, was raped near these cities by a gang that wouldn’t take no for an answer, and the repercussions were brutal. The visitors from the 12th Planet had the bomb and used it.

Business partners were warned ahead of time but were given scarcely enough time to leave. No time for good-byes or even a lingering last look, yet the wife of one business associate did just that. She lingered, not wanting to leave the home she loved and not truly understanding the circumstances.

When the bomb exploded she was gazing down on the city and was in line of the blast rather than over the hill, and was essentially vaporized where she stood. Legend explained her burned and hardened remains, gray with the fine dust of the fallout, as a pillar of salt.

Intimidating head gear, recently featured in the movie Stargate.

ZetaTalk: Dogon Tribe, written Aug 15, 1995
Much has been written about the Dogon tribe and their knowledge of the stars. Such a simple people, kept out of the industrial age even today. How did they come by this information?

Their visitors hailed from the 12th Planet, who even then had advanced knowledge of the stars as they plotted their travels by them so as to know their place out in space just as ancient mariners held to the stars to know what place they occupied on the vast oceans.

The dog heads worn as masks by these visitors were a common ploy, occasionally switched for the heads of birds or snakes. While under the influence of those in the Service-to-Self orientation, they found these masks aided them in terrifying the diminutive humans they encountered, as their expressions could not be read.

Gold

The Annunaki needed Gold for their home planet to retain the heat and light that bounced up into the atmosphere.
Their home planet, Planet X, aka the 12th Planet, is a smoldering brown dwarf, neither a planet nor a Sun, with a slow enough smolder that heat and light are generated but not to the extent that life is not possible.

ZetaTalk: 12th Planet Glow, written Jul 15, 1995
The 12th Planet has both heat and light, generated from within its core. Life on the 12th Planet, which is inhabited by a large hominoid indistinguishable from humans other than by its size, experiences continuous day. Life that has evolved there does not sleep, but rests.

The light is diffused in the atmosphere, and returns to the land surface, but emerges from the core to interact with the atmosphere only via the surface of the deep oceans, which cover the majority of the planet’s surface. You may equate this to volcanic activity, where the Earth has numerous places both above ground and under the oceans that ooze molten lava. Just so the 12th Planet has places where the molten and churning substance in its core escapes to the surface.

On the 12th Planet, the heat released diffuses in all directions, so the surface of the planet is warm but not hot. Your feet would not blister, but they may feel cool in places where the rock strata do not provide a good passage for heat, should you visit that planet. Light only escapes the core where what is essentially volcanic activity under the water occurs.

Their search for Gold, and the value they placed on it, is the reason humans today place such a high value upon it, and gave rise to many legends.

ZetaTalk: El Dorado, written Oct 15, 1995
The obsession with Gold is not natural to man, it is a habit mankind picked up from the visitors from the 12th Planet. What about Gold makes it so cherished? Platinum is as tarnish free, silver and copper as malleable, and yet Gold is accepted as a metal more precious than others, more desirable, a metal to die for.

This attitude toward Gold, passed as a heritage from generation to generation, was impressed on mankind from those who had to have Gold, and did not hesitate to kill for it. Where mankind uses Gold for adornment or as a medium of exchange, the visitors from the 12th Planet were collecting Gold for survival.

Their home planet, on its long orbit out in space, is subjected to atmospheric abrasion the Earth and the other planets on more sedate orbits around the Sun do not suffer. The 12th Planet losses atmosphere here and there, on a regular basis, and where this can be rebuild from its copious oceans, being basically a water planet, certain elements become depleted.

Molecules in the atmosphere, containing Gold, are necessary to retain the heat and light the planet generates, to keep the heat and light, essentially, bouncing back to the surface, as without these Gold based molecules the planet dims and cools.

Thus, the visitors from the 12th Planet came to Earth on a search, a mining mission, and were intent on raping the Earth of its relatively abundant Gold and using its primitive hominoids, humans, as slaves to do so.

It was impressed upon mankind early that Gold was the ruler’s due, and death fell to he who hoarded or withheld it. El Dorado, the lost City of Gold, was a staging point where the space ships used as shuttles were loaded and sent aloft at the appropriate time. Since this time only arrived once every 3,657 years, on average, a lot of Gold stacked up.

Long after the visitors from the 12th Planet left the Earth the humans who had heard the stories from those who made deliveries to El Dorado searched for this City of Gold. They search still. However, the ruins, when discovered as they have been repeatedly, are not recognized as there is no gold. Why would these visitors, so desperate for what was essentially a life giving metal, leave any behind?

Mars

Were and are the Annunaki on Mars?
They certainly were in the past, mining for Gold there as they eventually did on Earth, and leaving evidence of their presence, as they had on Earth.

ZetaTalk: Structures on Mars, written by Jul 15, 1995
There are remnants of an ancient civilization on Mars that at one time also colonized Earth. Those who pursue this matter academically are not off track, recognizing the similarities between these structures and those of ancient Egypt. It is not in the imagination of man that some of the structures on Earth, such as the Giant Pyramids and the Sphinx, seem reminiscent of structures on Mars. Same group, same handiwork. They liked to leave a statement, and have. There is speculation that the Face on Mars and nearby pyramids were used as astronomical markers, and this was indeed their prime purpose. They wanted an unmistakable marker which could be seen on approach, as the surface of Mars has few distinguishing characteristics.

Images taken by the many probes NASA has sent to Mars confirm this, documenting the Face on Mars and gridlike city street and aquaduct outlines, though NASA worked energentically to suppress this information.

NASA makes 20,000 images of Mars available on Internet
Associated Press, May 23, 2000
NASA has made more than 20,000 images of Mars available as a Web-based photo album. The pictures taken by the orbiting Mars Global Surveyor constitute the single largest one-time release of images for any planet in the history of solar system exploration.

The archive covers one Mars year, 687 Earth days, beginning in September 1997 and extending through August 1999. The release allows anyone with Internet access to explore Mars in much the same way as planetary researchers do. Mars Global Surveyor completed more than 5,000 orbits of the Red Planet.

Ah, but how many of those 20,000 images were of the contested Face on Mars, or other suspected man made landmarks?
Despite intense pressure on NASA to film the area, everything BUT the Cydonia region was imaged.

The Mysterious Structures That May Upstage NASA’s Evidence of Martian Life
Aug 17, 1996 from the Daily Mail – London
Best-selling Author Graham Hancock, whose book, Fingerprints of the Gods, was the publishing phenomenon of [1995], believes there is evidence to support [the theory that] monumental structures on [Mar's that] have mystified scientists for 20 years [are] the remains of a great civilization.

[These] structures, detected in NASA video images sent back by the Viking Orbiter in 1976, have never been photographed since but have become the focus of a widening controversy over the past 20 years. Because they include several enormous pyramids and a massive sphinx-like face.

Carl Sagan urged that forthcoming American and Russian missions to Mars should make a special effort to look much more closely at the pyramids and at what some people call the Face and the City.

The late Carl Sagan’s voice was joined in this matter by the late Dr. Tom Van Flandern, who also encouraged close inspection.

Washington, January 8, 1998 00:07 a.m. EST
by Michael Woods, Toledo Blade
The mysterious Face on Mars is not an optical illusion or a natural feature on the Red Planet. Dr.Tom Van Flandern reached this conclusion after new studies of the Cydonia region.

His report, presented at the 191st national meeting of the American Astronomical Society (AAS), attracted unusual attention because sharp new images of the Face may soon be available.

What were the Annunaki doing on Mars? Mining for Gold.
They washed the ore with surface water, sending it into underground caverns during this process, Destroying the base for the atmosphere in the process, and thus the traces of former life on Mars and former lakes on Mars found today.

ZetaTalk: Life on Mars, written Jul 15, 1995
Mars today is a dead planet, but in the recent past this was not the case, as evidenced by the weathered structures on Mars reminiscent of the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx. Some life bearing planets have a stronger footing than others, being closer to the warmth of a sun, for instance, and more particularly being a water planet like the Earth.

Mars has little of that precious substance, and was a life bearing planet only where the freezing point had not trapped the water. The atmosphere surrounding a water planet can rebuild quickly, particularly in the components that support life. On a dry planet the atmosphere is fragile, and each rebuilding takes away more of the precious water.

In the past, Mars sustained life to a level not unlike our home in Zeta Reticuli – moss and insects and worms. On such worlds there is not enough food in the food chain to support animals above that level, and setbacks occur repeatedly. A bug-eating reptile might get its start, only to die off during lean times, time and again. Thus such planets plateau.

Mars met its demise as a result of visitors from the 12th Planet, who set up mining operations on Mars in preference to Earth where large carnivorous mammals roamed about in great numbers. [Planet X] has no such carnivores on land, and as large and muscular as these giant hominoid visitors are, they quaked at the thought.

Where the atmosphere on Mars was thin, it was ample, so the visitors set about using what water resources they could muster to wash the ore they were after. In so doing they sought to control the run-off on the relatively flat surface of Mars, and did so in a thoughtless manner by directing waste water down a culvert.

Thus precious water increasingly was sent underground, and a chain of events was set in motion that could not be reversed. The surface of Mars cooled as the atmosphere thinned, and the freezing surface accelerated this process. Soon the atmosphere was too thin to breathe, and as the 12th Planet hominoids are used to a perpetual summer they were not all that reluctant to leave a freezing planet.

Earth now looked more promising, especially as they had little alternative. They devised ways of dealing with the carnivores, specifically buffering themselves with human slaves trained in defense. Eventually, after being quarantined from Earth, they learned how to create and maintain their own atmosphere in air tight chambers, and thus relocatable they have continued their mining operations within the Solar System, on this spot or that, and are here still.

The Zetas are speaking of the Mar’s moon Phoebus, heavily endowed with Gold ore, which the Annunaki have been mining and living within, up to the present.
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Labs had to admit the evidence of water on Mars.

Organization: Jet Propulsion Laboratory
June 29, 1998
Several clues from Pathfinder data point to a wet and warm early history on Mars. The bulk of the landing site appears to have been deposited by large volumes of water, and the hills on the horizon known as Twin Peaks appear to be streamlined islands shaped by water.

Unmistakable water on the surface of Mars, but where had it gone?
Unwilling to admit that hominoid hands had been at work, diverting the water, it remained a mystery.

Moon

While on Earth, the Annunaki also used the Moon as a staging point, and as a communication assist.

Despite NASA denials, all the Structures on the Moon are not natural, nor are they man-made. The Moon, so close to Earth yet clear of the Earth’s congested surface and atmosphere, has been used by many alien groups, and for many reasons. Currently it is a home for those in the Service-to-Self, who reside there.

However, their home is not what has humans talking, as they are placed on what is called the dark side of the Moon, never visible from Earth. During the era when the hominoid visitors from the 12th Planet were running mining operations on the Earth, primarily for gold, they used the Moon as a communication outpost, as it was free of cloud cover and allowed for a more precise aim through space.

The Moon was thus a booster, magnifying signals sent from Earth and sending a clear strong signal into space. These communications went to their mining operations on Mars, but primarily to their home planet when it drew near, as the opportunity for contact with home was not to be missed.

The shards of communication crystals – abandoned and idle but causing quite a stir among humans these days.

Yes, they used crystals for communication.

ZetaTalk: Tetrahedral Crystals, written Jul 15, 1995
It is not your imagination that you see Tetrahedral Shapes on the Moon, and the faint outline of such on the eroded surface of Mars. Yes, they are there, and yes, they had a purpose in the past. They are not inactive structures, with no reuse in the foreseeable future.

What were they used for, and is there magic in the shape? The shape is significant, as it is functional. Large crystals have been used to boost communications in Earth’s past. The tetrahedral form simply provided the best focused emission, when energy was applied on all perimeter surfaces and converged in the center.

This was one of the things noticed by the astonished astronauts when they disembarked on the Moon. This subject receives much press, and much speculation, as the rumors can be supported by faint images in amateur telescopes.

The Arc of the Covenant was in fact such a communication device, thus the voice of God seeming to emerge from the Arc.

Zetatalk: Ark of the Covenant, written Jul 15, 1995
The Ark of the Covenant was a device used for communication by members of the 12th Planet. They found the element gold to be useful in many ways, and treated it in a worshipful manner by elevating gold to the status of a god – the god of communication.

Crystals have also been so used by this race, as communication boosters. Because of the awe and reverence surrounding the Ark, primitive humans perceived the Ark to be a touchstone of the gods, especially when the voice of what they assumed to be a god came booming forth.

[Hominoids] from the 12 Planet would go inside the Covenant, voices would emerge, and then they would leave, having gotten their instructions. Surely this was from God Almighty! The Ark itself was treated as a sacred object, as it was valued and lives were sacrificed if it was mistreated in any way.

Like most objects that are poorly understood, but seem magical, the Ark of the Covenant gained a reputation that superseded its true worth. The Ark was eventually broken down and its gold reused, by the folks who built it and understood that it was not at all sacred. Humans, poor misguided souls, are still looking for this lost Ark, and may look forever.

Quarantine

There are many Internet rumors that the Annunaki will return to Earth, as conquerors.
Hardly, they are in quarantine, and any such attempts will not suceed.
Likewise, we, on Earth, are quarantined from them, and thus the failure of so many Mar’s probes, or the attempts to nuke Planet X, their home planet, to divert it from its path.

ZetaTalk: Conquest, written Feb 15, 2002
They cannot shuttle to Earth at this time, as it has been deemed by the Council of Worlds to constitute interference with your free will because their interaction with humans sprang from their agenda for conquest. The quarantine was put into place some thousands of years ago, but close enough in your recent past that contact remains in your legends.

They have no plans, despite fear mongering among those claiming to be in contact with these folks, to return to Earth, which they consider a swamp. The Earth in their memory is full of carnivores, rebelling slaves, and accidents related to wild weather. Now that mankind has technology, a fact that cannot be denied due to probes sent about and requiring their mining operation on Mars to shoot them down when they come too close, they are even less inclined to visit.

The Annunaki were given blows in the past, too, to reduce their influence on Earth.
Case in point, Atlantis.

ZetaTalk: Lemuria & Atlantis, written Jun 15, 1997
Atlantis was land near the current continent of Europe, which was pulled into the Atlantic during the continental rip that accompanies violent pole shifts and thus disappeared dramatically under the sea. This demise was assisted by extraterrestrials, who took advantage of the natural cataclysm to adjust the balance in spiritual orientation influencing developing human spirits, in line with a determination by the Council of Worlds that such an adjustment was needed.

Atlantis had been essentially invaded by the giant hominoids from the 12th Planet, who prior to the quarantine that is now in effect were considered simply another hominoid race within your Solar System. Interactions between humans and these hominoids were allowed to proceed without interference, but increasing slavery of humans by these giant hominoids was tripping the balance so that humans were less and less free to choose their orientation based on their true feelings and increasingly influenced by feelings of helplessness. Thus, an adjustment was required.

So, quarantined, making the passage on their home planet, what will the Annunaki experience during the passage, which creates a devastating pole shift here on Earth?

ZetaTalk: Roller Coaster Ride, written Apr 15, 1997
Since the passage of the 12th Planet is so devastating to the Earth, what must the ride be like for the giant hominoids who live on the surface of the 12th Planet?

During the passage, the hominoids are using history as a guide, as those who last experienced the passage are long dead. This history is recorded as astronomical terms, so sighting the Solar System and confirming the orbits of the planets is reassuring to those who might be nervous about the coming passage.

In fact, the passage is viewed not unlike a holiday, where great dramas are played out before the eyes of the rapt audience. When passing the Earth, they can visually see the pole shift as it occurs, a phenomena which draws rapt crowds just as an eclipse of the Sun by the Moon does on Earth. Lightning storms occur in their upper atmosphere during the passage, fireworks rarely seen on their calm world.

Thus, the passage is more a holiday than a dreaded situation. However, those with empathy for the human population of Earth grieve, but there is scarcely anything they can do about what is occurring on Earth. They can no more steer their planet than mankind can.

mystery

THE mystery of the SECOND PASSOVER
The Second Passover is a little known feast of the Old Testament. It was
Implemented by Moses at the request of certain obedient Israelites who did
Not want to miss the important celebration of Passover itself. They had been
Ceremonially unclean at first Passover and inquired as to whether or not
They could still partake of the feast. The Biblical story occurs in Numbers
9:1-14 and should be read now. This passage contains important clues
Concerning who should partake of Second Passover today, namely those who
Understand that they ARE IN A FAR JOURNEY OR live in the perpetual state of
Being defiled by a dead body, by a carnal nature.

Passover itself is really the preeminent feast of those who seek to overcome
The feast prophesied the sacrifice and crucifixion of Yahweh-savior
Whereby His blood redeems Adam kind from the curse of death, allowing the
Angel of death to “pass over” us so that we can live in Yah’s presence. This
Is why yah commanded Israel in the days of Moses to place the blood of a
Lamb on their door posts and lintels. The Passover lambs were effective for
The forgiveness of sins and the passing over of the death angel because
Their blood represented the blood of the Lamb of el, Yahweh Himself.

Yet, there is an important mystery hidden in the Second Passover. That feast
Relates to prophetic truth beyond our spiritual redemption in Yahweh shua. I
Can only find one instance other than the one above in Numbers 9 of an
Observance of Second Passover in all of Scripture. This is the account of
Second Passover celebrated by King Hezekiah of Judah in 2 Chronicles 30. I
Urge you to read that entire chapter now and again when you finish this
Article because the whole passage deals with Hezekiah’s keeping of the
Second Passover and includes many important prophetic truths.
The Biblical account of Hezekiah in 2 Kings, 2 Chronicles, and Isaiah
Carries an Overcomer, or Sons of yah, theme.
The best place to gain an
Understanding of the Overcomers is in the second and third chapters of
Revelation in the letters to the seven churches. Clearly messiah wrote those
letters to Christians who were members of those churches. He makes it clear
Throughout these letters that only a small group of these congregations, a
Remnant,” would ever qualify as Overcomers and thus partake of the rule and
Reign of His coming Kingdom. Many of his parables in the Gospels include
This theme. The idea of an Overcomer as a specific type of believer is found
throughout Scripture, Old and New Testaments. I cannot dwell more upon this
idea here.

We see the Overcomer theme in the story of Hezekiah in quite a few verses.
First, Hezekiah was an obedient believer according to 2 Kings 18:3-6. Second
when Sennacherib, king of Assyria, threatens to destroy Hezekiah and all of
Judah, Hezekiah seeks Yahweh and He answers through His prophet Isaiah.
Isaiah brings a word to Hezekiah prophesying Sennacherib’s destruction. See
Isaiah 37:21-38. Part of this prophecy includes the following sign given to
Hezekiah:
(Isa 37:30-32 NKJV) {30} “This shall be a sign to you: You shall eat this
year such as grows of itself, And the second year what springs from the same
Also in the third year sow and reap, Plant vineyards and eat the fruit of
them. {31} And the remnant who have escaped of the house of Judah Shall
again take root downward, And bear fruit upward. {32} For out of Jerusalem
shall go a remnant, And those who escape from Mount Zion. The zeal of
yahweh of hosts will do this.”

By comparing verse 30 above with Leviticus 25:11, we see that Yahweh here
gives Hezekiah a jubilee sign. Israel was to neither sow nor reap each
fiftieth year. The key aspect of the jubilee is found in Leviticus 25:13
where yah commands that in the 50th year “each of you shall return to his
possession.” In the natural this meant that no man could lose his land, or
real estate, forever. Prophetically, it means that mankind’s spiritual
possession, his glorified body, will be restored to him on some future
jubilee. Also, note the “remnant” theme here in Isaiah 37:31-32.
Now it so happened that Hezekiah almost died of an infectious boil just
after this mighty deliverance from the hand of Sennacherib. Isaiah tells the
king to prepare his house for he is going to die. Hezekiah prays for his
life, however, and Yahweh grants him an additional fifteen years. This is
interesting for many reasons. One is that it fits in with the sign given
above. Up to this time Hezekiah was childless. The line of David would
possibly have ended if Hezekiah had died from his boil. The sign above,
however, states that in the third year from the time of the prophecy,

Hezekiah should sow and reap. Well, he did exactly that. In the third year
thereafter his wife, Hephzibah, conceived. Hephzibah is a prophetic name we
also find in Isaiah 62:4 and speaks of the Bride of messiah. At the end of
this third year, his son, Manasseh, was born. Manasseh, of course, is the
name of Joseph’s son who, according to 1 Chronicles 5:1, received “the
birthright,” i.e. the Kingdom. The birth of Manasseh thus speaks of sonship
and the inheritance of the birthright. This relates to ruling and reigning
with yahweh in His Kingdom. Thus we see that the story of Hezekiah
prophetically speaks of the “Sons of yah,” the Overcomers. It concerns our
time today.
Now remember that it is Hezekiah who partakes of the second Passover and
that he is the only person ever mentioned by name as having celebrated this
feast. This uniquely relates the second Passover to the Overcomers. Also,
since Hezekiah deals with a jubilee theme, this means that the second
Passover also prophesies the glorification of the Sons of yahweh, that event
that we have come to call “the sons of the most high. melchizedek of the new
coveant”

On the other hand, I see that Josiah, who faithfully kept the first Passover
in 2 Chronicles 35:1, represents a faithful, but late-blooming hebrew.
Notice that he is not even aware of yahs Law until the 18th year of his 31
year ministry as king. When he does find the Law he obeys, but by then
yahweh says that it is too late to avert His judgment upon his kingdom. I
believe the same thing applies to our day. Most Christians have still not
found yahweh’s Law. They misuse yahweh’s grace as a license to sin and call
any use of yah’s Law “legalism.” They write books that undermine yah’s Law
and  words. Christians’ repudiation of the words and law of the messiah have
led to the current “leavened” state of all the world, leavened by sin and
false doctrine. It is too late now to avert yah’s judgment upon this
Mystery Babylon,” mankind’s governments and institutions. The time is late.
A few saint’s, like Josiah did, are beginning to obey yahweh’s word. They
are finding His Law. But, according to Matthew 25 we know that at some point
there is no longer time to buy enough oil to qualify as a wise virgin and
enter the wedding feast. I think the 1st passover Josiah kept represents
this.

We may already have entered this late time, but only yahweh  knows who
qualifies as a wise virgin and who does not. Josiah represents saints who
will not be counted as Overcomers, who will not receive their glorified
bodies at the second resurrection.  and will not be allowed to minister yah
s truth in their natural bodies in the Kingdom Age. They will not live, but
they will shall die. but to those that have solved the mystery of the second
passover is the promise given, Isaiah describes as follows:
(Isa 65:18-25 NKJV) {18} But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create;
For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, And her people a joy. {19} I
will rejoice in Jerusalem, And joy in My people; The voice of weeping shall
no longer be heard in her, Nor the voice of crying. {20} “No more shall an
infant from there live but a few days, Nor an old man who has not fulfilled
his days; For the child shall die one hundred years old, But the sinner
being one hundred years old shall be accursed. {21} They shall build houses
and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. {22} They
shall not build and another inhabit; They shall not plant and another eat;
For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people, And My elect
shall long enjoy the work of their hands. {23} They shall not labor in vain,
Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they shall be the descendants of
the blessed of the LORD, And their offspring with them. {24} “It shall come
to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still
speaking, I will hear. {25} The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, The
lion shall eat straw like the ox, And dust shall be the serpent’s food. They
shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,” Says yahweh.

Josiah, like all blind Christians, partook of the first Passover, not the
second. This is the only recorded Passover observed by a king of Israel or
Judah. The first Passover, of which all believers partake, is the Passover
of spiritual death. this  represents our spiritual rebirth. The death angel
passes over us so that we do not die forever. In the natural, in Exodus, the
death angel passed over the first born who partook of the Passover. The
Egyptians did not partake of this Passover. Therefore, all of their
firstborn died.
The second Passover, however, prophesies a different type of “pass over.” It
is that represented by yahweh’s parable in Matthew 24:37-51. The
interpretation of the one taken and the one left really does not matter here
I have heard various speakers refer to one or the other, the one left or
the one taken, as referring to the chosen. The point is that at the second
Passover, the ones who are not Overcomers shall be passed over, in a seeming
reversal of the first Passover. The Overcomers, or first born of the Sons of
God will be chosen to rule and reign with yahweh messiah. “Many are called,
but few are chosen.” Thus the remnant, the Overcomers, the Sons of yah, the
first born, will partake of the second Passover in the sense that they will
be chosen as such at the time of the prophetic fulfillment of this feast.
There is one other interesting point related to the second Passover.

According to Leviticus 23:10-11 the priest was to wave a sheaf of the
firstfruits of harvest of barley unto yahweh. This occurred on the “morrow
after the Sabbath” during the “feast of unleavened bread” celebrated for
seven days after Passover. 2 Chronicles 30 makes it clear that the feast of
unleavened bread is also celebrated at Second Passover. Since the Jews
measure time in lunar months, it so happens that every few years a month has
to be added to the calendar to keep the months aligned with the seasons.
They use the degree of maturity of the barley crop to determine when to add
a month. If the barley will not be ripe for the Passover of the first month,
then a thirteenth month is added to the year. In essence, this pushes the
Passover off to the second month of the new year (although it actually
becomes the first month since a thirteenth month was added to the old year).
My point is that this practice becomes a type of celebrating the second
Passover and the reason for doing so is to ensure that the barley will be
ripe for the wave sheaf offering. A careful reading of Scripture shows that
barley is often associated with Overcomer themes, thus making barley itself
a type of the Overcomer. The prophetic fulfillment of the second Passover,
therefore, will occur when the barley is ripe, when the Overcomes will
receive their glorified bodies and begin to rule and reign with yahweh.

“THE MESSIAH
WAS NOT KILLED IN THE FIRST PASSOVER”
In John’s gospel, chapter 11, we find yahweh-shua’s arrival in Bethany, a
small village near Jerusalem, where he came to the sisters Mary and Martha
who are grieving the death of their brother Lazarus that took place four
days prior.  yahweh-shua had delayed his arrival in Bethany so that His
raising of Lazarus from the dead would serve to glorify him as yahweh and
reveal who He was. it would also serve to give the Jewish sandherdin high
court ruled by caiaphas the high priest and the scribes and the the elders
that were assembled in the temple a legal reason to delay killing the
messiah in the first passover because he touched the dead body of lazarus.
11:43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come
forth.

11:44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with
graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. yahweh-shua saith
unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
11:45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things
which yahweh-shua did, believed on him.
11:46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what
things yahweh-shua had done.
11:47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said,
What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
11:48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans
shall come and take away both our place and nation.

they knew that a very large number of Isralites would be in Jerusalem for
the 1st passover feast. this was a perfect reason for the delay of killing
the messiah in the first passover,  the fear of the jewish high court to
kill him him in the presences of the large crouds would give them time for
the large crowds to disperse after the first passover. the large crowd would
have long returned to their homes after the first passover  and present the
jewish high court a chance to condeem the messiah as unclean and have him to
return in the  second passover so they could kill him in a much smaller
crowd.because the messiah had gained a lot of respect among the people
proving he was indeed the messiah. The time is now getting critical in
yahweh-shua’s ministry.

For three years he had taught yahweh’s purpose throughout the region of
Judea.  Though yahweh-shua’s ministry was centered around Capernaum in
galilee, yahweh-shua visited Jerusalem during all the commanded feasts.  His
close proximity with the Jewish leadership engendered conflict on each of
these visits as the messiah  taught a gospel of real truth and grace that
refuted the legalistic and condemning practice of the Jewish leaders.  These
leaders saw this self proclamied messiah as an uneducated cult leader who
was leading people away from the Jewish law and out from under their
authority.  They interpreted his theology as capital blasphemy worthy of
death.  Consequently, each time we see an encounter between the messiah and
the Jewish leadership we see such conflict, and each time the leadership
retreats into secret council’s and builds their capital case against Him
hoping to put him to death.

Chapter 12 of John finds  the messiah six days before the 1st passover still
in the home of his friend Lazarus, whom he raised from the dead four days
proir, with Mary, and Martha in Bethany.  he is making preparations for his
entrance into Jerusalem as He is prepearing to take part in another Passover
feast.  but as we shall see the sanherdin jews will use the factor of
numbers chapter nine as toucthing the dead to  judge him unclean by reason
of raising lazarus, and will require the messiah, alone with lazarus, and
all the disciples and those that touched lazarus to return to jerusalem 30
days later to keep the second passover!

John 12:1-2.
Then Jesus six days before the Passover the messiah came to Bethany, where
Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. 2There they
made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat
at the table with him.
The scripture does not record any of the conversations between the messiah
and Lazarus’ family in the days following the raising of Lazarus from the
dead, but one can only imagine the joy that was felt by Mary and Martha as
the grief of their brother’s death and the hopelessness of their future
instantly vanished at his resurrection.  As Mary and Martha saw their future
restored and were thinking about the things that they would do, Lazarus had
the unusual opportunity to do the same.  As each is sharing about their
future, the messiah knew clearly what the nature of His future on earth
would be:  He would be captured by the religious leadership that sought Him,
and he would suffer a tortuous death.  The range of emotions present at this
time would be extreme.

John 12:3.
Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed
the feet of  the messiah , and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house
was filled with the odor of the ointment.
Mary’s gesture of love is curious.  The imported oil that Mary used would
have cost about 300 denarii, about a year’s wages for an average workman.
Because of its value and small size, many kept such oils as an investment
that could be sold quickly when cash is needed.  As the messiah was reclined
at the table, in the manner of first-century custom, His feet would be quite
accessible.  Mary wanted to show her love and gratitude to him for His part
in the restoration of the life of her brother, so she took her vial of oil,
opened it, and anointed yahweh’s feet with it.  Foot washing was a common
practice in their culture, as people wore sandals as they traveled in the
dusty streets.  The lowest servant would draw the task of washing the feet
of guests.  Mary’s gesture goes far beyond even this ritual in its humility
and expression of love.  the messiah’s feet would have already have been
washed as He entered the home.
Now, Mary uses this every expensive oil to
cleanse His feet.  The aroma of the oil would fill the entire room, and all
who were present would witness this act of love and humility.
The oil that Mary applied to the messiah’s feet is also used to anoint the
body of one who had died as they prepare it for burial.  It is unclear if
Mary yet knew that the messiah was about to die, and within the context of
her witness of the raising of her brother, it is quite doubtful that the
idea entered her mind.  Mary would not have known the significance of her
anointing of the messiah in the context of His coming death on the tree of
Calvary.  Still, her expression of love was profoundly generous, and would
have been noticed by all who were in the house.

John 12:4-6.
Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should
betray him, 5Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and
given to the poor? 6This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but
because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
Not everyone in the room was appreciative of Mary’s gesture.  the messiah
knew Judas’ nature, and his upcoming act of betrayal (John 6:70).  What
Judas lacked in an appreciation for human need he gained in his desire for
financial success.  His interest in things financial gained him the task of
holding and managing the treasury of yahweh-shua and the apostles.
This
close proximity to their money was a temptation that Judas was not wanton to
overcome:  he helped himself to the contents of the bag at his own pleasure.
This act characterized Judas as a thief.  Judas’ concern for the
expenditure of the oil was not related to its application to help the poor.
If the spikenard were to be sold, it would have added a year’s wages to his
moneybag, providing him with more funds from which to pilfer.
John 12:7-8.
Then said the messiah, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she
kept this. 8For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
yahweh’s statement clearly delineates the contrast between Mary’s devotion
to the messiah and that of Judas.  yahweh-shua’s statement may have even
surprised Mary as He stated that what Mary had just done served a specific
purpose:  to prepare Him for His upcoming death.
There is little question
that with the tree of Calvary looming so near, yahweh’s mind was focused on
it.  As Mary anointed his feet He would have immediately recognized the
appropriateness of her act, and at this first opportunity to speak, he
shared this with others.  he was not making a disparaging statement about
the poor, but rather than pointing out to Judas that if he really wanted to
help the poor he could have been doing so at any time before, and will be
able to continue doing so for as long as he walks the earth.  Judas’ lack of
concern for the poor is clearly exposed.  yahweh-shua then reveals the
brevity of His own presence.  Though the poor will always be around, He will
not. he told the people in the room that He would be dying sooner than they.
Little did they understand at this point, that he was speaking of the
events that would take place soon, and little did Judas know that he would
survive little longer when the consequences of his greed and deceit would
devour him.

John 12:9-11.
Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not
for messiah’s sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had
raised from the dead. 10But the chief priests consulted that they might put
Lazarus also to death; 11Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went
away, and believed on yahweh.
The crowd that gathered at this time at this home in Bethany had come, not
only to see the messiah, but to see Lazarus.  People had heard and witnessed
yahweh-shua’s power to heal, and many came to meet and speak to Lazarus.
Even today, if one were to return from the dead as some claim to have done,
people will seek to learn through that experience and the survivor will be
afforded a lot of attention.  This further inflamed the crisis that was
brewing in the Jewish leadership.  They were witnessing more and more people
coming to the messiah and his ‘blasphemous” doctrine.
Before yahweh-shua
came they were the proud carriers of the faith and were in total control of
Jewish religion, culture, and teaching.  they were the center of their
religious universe.  yahweh-shua had severely eroded that position of power,
and this event in Bethany only served to turn more people away from them.
At the rate that they saw their influence eroding and it was only a matter
of time before they felt they would be completely overthrown.  Now they were
faced with this man, Lazarus, who was giving a powerful testimony in support
of the messiah, and he was bringing as many followers to yahweh. The
religious leaders realized that the only way to quiet Lazarus would be to
kill him, so they conspired amongst themselves as to how they would go about
it.  One can only imagine the conversation among these religious leaders as
they tried to figure out how to kill someone who had already died once
before!  Surely, yahweh-shua would just raise him from the dead again.
Certainly, they faced a most unusual dilemma, one for which they would
shortly find a solution.
John 12:12-13.

On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard
that the messiah was coming to Jerusalem, 13Took branches of palm trees, and
went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel
that cometh in the name of  Yahweh.
As he entered Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover, he was accompanied by
a large crowd that was made up of two groups.  When we observe the record
made by the writers of the other three gospels (Matt 21, Mark 11, Luke 19),
we find that one group were those Jews who had made the pilgrimage to
Jerusalem to observe the Passover.  Travel was difficult in the first
century, so typically, most of the people who came would have originated
from the nearby region, including Capernaum where the messiah had spent the
large part of his three-year ministry.  These would have previously heard of
the messiah, and many would respond positively to the knowledge of his
presence among them.  The larger group that honored yahweh-shua at the gate,
however, was that which came with him from Bethany, the group that had
either witnessed the raising of Lazarus, or those who joined shortly
thereafter.  Consequently, the praise that was afforded to the messiah did
not start at the gates of Jerusalem, but rather at the grave of Lazarus.
One can envision the town of Bethany emptying out to accompany the messiah
and Lazarus to the City of Jerusalem.  Nothing like this had ever occurred
before, and the leaders of the City were well-aware of this dangerous
situation.

yahweh-shua’s  previous entrances to Jerusalem were wither quiet or almost
secretive because, as we find in previous chapters, yahweh-shua’s time had
not yet come.  However, in Bethany he stated that it was now His time, so
there was no such need for secrecy.  However, the riotous nature of the
crowd’s response at this point adds a new factor to the equation:  the power
of the Roman leadership.  Rome was successful in holding many lands far from
Rome due to the governmental structure that was in place.  Local communities
were allowed to rule themselves under Roman supervision as long as the taxes
were paid to Rome and the people were kept under control.   The presence of
so many Isralite’s in Jerusalem during the Passover had been considered
dangerous without this new controversy.  Because of this, all of the local
Roman leadership was in the city during the Passover, and the Roman guards
were on alert for any problems.  Therefore, when this crowd entered
Jerusalem with a controversial message, the the King of Israel (Psalm
118:25-26), is entering, the leadership that was responsible to Rome saw
their future to be bleak indeed.
The chant made by the people was clearly a
call for the Messiah.  They were shouting, “Hosanna”, which means literally,
“Save us!”  In order to keep their positions, the Jerusalem leadership, both
Jew and Roman, had to keep the peace, and now a crowd was advocating a new
King over Israel.  This situation was exceedingly dangerous.
John 12:14-19.
And yahweh-shua, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is
written, 15Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on
an ass’s colt. 16These things understood not his disciples at the first: but
when he was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written
of him, and that they had done these things unto him. 17The people therefore
that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him
from the dead, bare record. 18For this cause the people also met him, for
that they heard that he had done this miracle. 19The Pharisees therefore
said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world
is gone after him.

The synoptic gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke provide more details
concerning the procurement and use of the donkey upon which the messiah rode
into Jerusalem.  First, this form of entry fulfilled the prophesy of
Zechariah 9:9.  A king who would come to power would enter the gates on a
horse, a “mighty steed,” and would be surrounded by his army.  Though we can
see parallels in this entry, the steed was a simple donkey, and because of
its youth, a small one at that.  The donkey was used by the poorest people,
and a horse by the richest.  messiah’s entrance on a donkey is an
illustration of his humble roots, and also serves to dissuade any thought
that His entrance is one that is militant in nature.  yahweh-shua’s army is
not bent on overtaking Jerusalem, it is simply focused on the person of
messiah as their king,

Yahweh-shua  attained that position with the people, not from military
junta, but by winning their hearts with his love and caring nature.  This
was not the type of King that was expected by the Jews.  Still, however,
this did not lessen the danger that the crowd presented to the religious
leaders.  For three years they had observed the growth of this self
proclaimed yahweh messiah’s following, and their inability to thwart it.
Verse 19 shows how they felt that in spite of all of their desires to stop
this movement, and against all of their efforts to take action against it,
they had gained nothing.  In their view they can see that the entire
community, the “world,” is going to follow this new messiah, and their
future is about to radically change, and in their opinion, it is certainly
not for the better.

Even as all of these events were transpiring, the disciples were so caught
up in them that they did not quite realize the significance of them at the
time.  Those who were most focused on the details of this event were those
who witnessed the raising of Lazarus, and they kept a detailed record of
these events.  It would be from this record that the disciples and others
would later realize that they had witness the fulfillment of prophesy.  At
the time, the disciples lacked the spiritual discernment that they would
attain after Pentecost when the record of all of these events would come
together in their memory to validate even more the nature, calling, and
purpose of this man who had said to them he was yahweh come in the flesh,
the Christ, the Messiah.  Through that record, their confidence and faith
would be affirmed all the more.

John 12:20-22.
And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the
feast: 21The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of
Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see the messiah. 22Philip
cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell yahweh-shua.
The group that entered with the messiah included many pilgrims, and
including among them were Greeks (or Gentiles), non-Jews who came to
Jerusalem to worship yahweh.  Their presence would only serve to inflame the
already dangerous situation since they held no allegiance to the religious
leadership of Jerusalem, or to anyone else for that matter.  Gentiles were
summarily rejected by the religious leaders and were forbidden from entering
the inner areas of the court because they were considered “unclean.”  The
riot in the temple that resulted in Paul’s imprisonment was started by the
rumor that he had taken a Gentile into the inner court.
The type of
leadership that the Gentiles saw in yahweh-shua was quite different.  the
messiah had took his message of grace to the greeks without hesitation.
After he healed the Gentile demoniac of Gadara, His message spread
throughout the Decapolis, the ten-city cluster that was East and Northwest
of the Sea of Galilee.  It is possible that some of these cities were
represented in this group.  These gentiles sought an audience with this
powerful man who call himself yahweh god of Israel, and rather than go to
Him directly, they went to Philip, who like a few other disciples, had a
Greek name.  Philip went to Andrew, another Greek-named hebrew, and together
they went to tell yahweh messiah of their request to see Him.

John 12:23.
And  messiah answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man
should be glorified.
It is not clear whether messiah’s response to the request for an audience
was directed to Philip and Andrew, or if the Greeks were also included.
However, his response is clearly directed to a Greek audience that had
heretofore been somewhat limited in their contact with the one who call
himself the god of Israel..  So, he gives to the Greeks a clear and unveiled
answer:  the time has now come that the Son of Man, referring to himself,
should be glorified, or lifted up.  he announced to the Gentiles that now
was the time for Him to fulfill His purpose, a purpose which involved
merging both Judah israel together under His kingship.  Unlike the rest of
the Jews who had rejected the Gentiles, messiah had never done so and in His
last statement to the Gentile community, He announces His purpose, and by so
doing, includes them in it.  Now the religious leadership find themselves up
against a following that not only includes the pilgrims and the village of
Bethany, but the Gentiles too!  To add insult to blasphemy, this so called
self proclaimed messiah is opening his fellowship to Gentiles!
When one
observes the dynamics of what is taking place at the gates of Jerusalem, it
is easy to see why the religious leadership worked so hard and so quickly to
diffuse this growing situation by killing this man from galilee.  At this
point, they would stop at nothing to quell the impending “disaster.”
John 12:24-26.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground
and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25He
that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this
world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26If any man serve me, let him follow
me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him
will my Father honor.

messiah repeats to the Gentiles a statement that he had repeatedly taught
the Jews.  It is recorded in Matthew (10:39) as spoken to the disciples, and
in Mark (8:36) to the disciples and a crowd, and in Luke (14:26) only
recently to a mixed audience,  When looked at within this context, we see
that yahweh-shua’s message of salvation is extended just as clearly and
openly to the Gentiles as it was to the Jews.   In explaining the teaching
to the Gentiles, he uses the metaphor of a seed of wheat.  As one witnesses
the life of living wheat, it grows and goes to seed.  However, it is at an
appropriate time that the wheat dies, and its seed falls to the ground.
However, this death is necessary so that the seed can be empowered.
The
dead seed will, at its appointed time, spring back to life, and bring forth
much more fruit.  the messiah’s death is like that of the wheat stalk.  It
is necessary for Him to die, so that through that death, fruition can be
found in new life that is afforded to Jews and Gentiles alike.  This cannot
take place without the atoning death of the king on the tree.
Consequently, as the messiah opens His arms to both Jews and Gentiles, all
must make a decision to follow Him or reject Him.  Verse 25 is very familiar
to many Christians.  Three different words for “life” are used here, and
understanding them might help us to appropriate a deeper knowledge of
messiah’s statement.  The first, psyche, from which English gets the word,
psychology,” refers to the individual’s personality and all that its
expression achieves.  To love one’s life is to place himself at the center
of his world, to make all of life’s priorities center around himself.  All
of the achievements of this life will be lost at death, and the person who
clings to this has no hope.

The second word for life is zoe, refers to the spiritual life that we
experience, and all that its expression achieves.  yahweh created adam in
His image, as beings who are not only physical and psychological, but also
spiritual.  It is this nature in adam that separates him from all of
creation.   We choose the foundation upon which we build our spirituality.
One can build it based upon the nature of this world, under the dominion of
Satan, or one can build it based upon the nature of yahweh.  The word that
is rendered, “hateth,” is a hate that results in rejection. Once we can
replace the word in the scripture and keep the meaning:  He who rejects the
Prince of this World shall overcome it, and be rewarded with eternal life.

Yahweh-shua then states that it is only through following Him that one can
make that distinction.  Following him is demonstrated by rejecting the
nature of this world and following Him as master.  Those who follow him do
so by submitting themselves to His kingship, and by so doing, become His
Servants.  It is these servants of messiah Christ that yahweh will honor on
the last day.
Again, it is very interesting to note that this last opportunity that the
messiah has to teach this truth is given to the Gentiles who asked for an
audience with Him.  Likewise, as yahweh revealed Himself to this lost and
wicked world, He did so first through the house of judah,  However, at the
appointed time,  he chose to extend his message of salvation to the lost
sheep of the house of Israel [gentiles] as well, and bring under His
kingship all jacob without regard to their worldly affiliation, as one body
of believers, under One Holy Spirit.

By including both Jew and Israel [Gentile] in His plan of salvation, yahweh
is, indeed, king of All.  There is no distinction in the mind of messiah
Christ when He lavishes His love upon us.  Likewise, those who number
themselves among His servants, should draw no distinctions when it comes to
inviting others to find the light and life of the gospel.  yahweh is king of
All, and it is the mission and ministry of the prophets to bring all of the
lost sheep back to Him.

the plot to kill him;
the new testement is clear that the messiah himself did not die in the first
passover but did in fact die on the second passover. now lets see if that is
so as we study the word of those that were present at the first passover, as
they plotted to kill him in the passover season.  THE Jews plot to Kill the
Messiah
John 11:53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put
him to death.
26:1 And it came to pass, when Yahweh-shua had finished all these sayings,
he said unto his disciples,
26:2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son
of man is betrayed to be crucified.
26:3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the
elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called
Caiaphas,
26:4 And consulted that they might take Yahweh-shua by subtilty, and kill
him.

26:5 But they said,
Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the
people.
Did you notice verse five ? “NOT ON THE FEAST DAY”   lest there be an uproar
among the people.!
Now let us see if they killed him on the first passover;
Matt; 26:17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples
came to Yahweh-shua , saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for
thee to eat the passover?
Here we can plainly see the messiah is still alive on the 15th the first day
of the feast of unleavened bread! If they had of killed him on the 1st
passover he would have died on the 14th day of the passover day at 3 PM!
Lets see what mark has to say on the subject;

Mark;
14:1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread:
and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by
craft, and put him to death.
14:2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the
people.
14:3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat
there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very
precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
Here we can plainly see mark also says he is alive,  ”But the Jews said,
Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people”
But of all things the messiah is sitting in the house eating with a leper! A
leper was unclean and if he was going to eat the passover he would of never
broken his own law to sit with the unclean or touch a dead body.
Mark 14-12,13
12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his
disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou
mayest eat the passover?
14:13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye
into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water:
follow him.

Very clearly the messiah is alive after the first passover of the Jews, the
court brands him unclean and this will require the messiah to return to his
own city to purify himself in order to be ready for the second passover.
Lets see what city he returns too.
John 11:54 Yahweh-shua therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but
went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called
Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
11:55 And the Jews’ passover [the second] was nigh at hand: and many went
out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves

11:56 Then sought they for Yahweh-shua, and spake among themselves, as they
stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?
11:57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment,
that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take
him.
and when the time came to return to Jerusalem to purify HIMSELF ALONG WITH
ALL THE OTHERS THAT WERE UNCLEAN the Jews sized upon the opportunity and
Apprehended and killed him on the 2ed passover of the unclean.

Jewish question

What is a “Jew”?

Do “Ashkenazi” Jews have a right to Palestine?

Not according to many historians, such as Arthur Koestler, who wrote The Thirteenth Tribe

The word “Jew” refers to both a religion and a race. Using one word for two different concepts is as stupid as referring to a religion as “Chinese”. In such a case, some people would describe themselves as Chinese when they were referring to their race, and other people would describe themselves as Chinese when they were referring to their religion.

Idiotic arguments would occur because some Chinese would insist that you cannot be Chinese unless your parents were Chinese. Other people would argue that we can all become Chinese, even Sammy Davis Jr. Incidentally, was Sammy Davis Jr. Jewish?

This arguing over words may seem trivial, but it is the reason we have wars in the Middle East. A group of people referring to themselves as “Jews” are insisting that Palestine belongs to them because their ancestors lived there are 2000 years ago. They created the Zionist movement to help restore their homeland.

However, numerous historians have looked into this issue and discovered that most of these Zionists are not descendants of the original Jews. Rather, most Zionists are “Ashkenazi Jews”; a race of people from Asia. The real, original Jews were physically and genetically similar to the Arabs, specifically, dark skin, dark eyes, and dark hair.

The real homeland for the white, Ashkenazi Jews is near the Caspian and Black Seas, not Palestine. Their ancestors picked up the Jewish religion many centuries ago. Due to the widespread ignorance of people in that era, after a few generations they assumed that they were the descendants of the Jews that lived in Palestine.

THE KHAZAR EMPIRE AND ITS HERITAGE

PART ONE

Rise and Fall of the Khazars

“In Khazaria, sheep, honey, and Jews exist in large quantities.”

Muqaddasi, Descriptio Imperii Moslemici (tenth century).

I

RISE

1

ABOUT the time when Charlemagne was crowned Emperor of the West, the eastern confines of Europe between the Caucasus and the Volga were ruled by a Jewish state, known as the Khazar Empire. At the peak of its power, from the seventh to the tenth centuries AD, it played a significant part in shaping the destinies of mediaeval, and consequently of modern, Europe. The Byzantine Emperor and historian, Constantine Porphyrogenitus (913-959), must have been well aware of this when he recorded in his treatise on court protocol[1] that letters addressed to the Pope in Rome, and similarly those to the Emperor of the West, had a gold seal worth two solidi attached to them, whereas messages to the King of the Khazars displayed a seal worth three solidi. This was not flattery, but Realpolitik. “In the period with which we are concerned,” wrote Bury, “it is probable that the Khan of the Khazars was of little less importance in view of the imperial foreign policy than Charles the Great and his successors.”[2]

The country of the Khazars, a people of Turkish stock, occupied a strategic key position at the vital gateway between the Black Sea and the Caspian, where the great eastern powers of the period confronted each other. It acted as a buffer protecting Byzantium against invasions by the lusty barbarian tribesmen of the northern steppes — Bulgars, Magyars, Pechenegs, etc. — and, later, the Vikings and the Russians. But equally, or even more important both from the point of view of Byzantine diplomacy and of European history, is the fact that the Khazar armies effectively blocked the Arab avalanche in its most devastating early stages, and thus prevented the Muslim conquest of Eastern Europe. Professor Dunlop of Columbia University, a leading authority on the history of the Khazars, has given a concise summary of this decisive yet virtually unknown episode:

The Khazar country … lay across the natural line of advance of the Arabs. Within a few years of the death of Muhammad (AD 632) the armies of the Caliphate, sweeping northward through the wreckage of two empires and carrying all before them, reached the great mountain barrier of the Caucasus. This barrier once passed, the road lay open to the lands of eastern Europe. As it was, on the line of the Caucasus the Arabs met the forces of an organized military power which effectively prevented them from extending their conquests in this direction. The wars of the Arabs and the Khazars, which lasted more than a hundred years, though little known, have thus considerable historical importance. The Franks of Charles Martel on the field of Tours turned the tide of Arab invasion. At about the same time the threat to Europe in the east was hardly less acute. … The victorious Muslims were met and held by the forces of the Khazar kingdom. … It can … scarcely be doubted that but for the existence of the Khazars in the region north of the Caucasus, Byzantium, the bulwark of European civilization in the east, would have found itself outflanked by the Arabs, and the history of Christendom and Islam might well have been very different from what we know.[3]

It is perhaps not surprising, given these circumstances, that in 732 — after a resounding Khazar victory over the Arabs — the future Emperor Constantine V married a Khazar princess. In due time their son became the Emperor Leo IV, known as Leo the Khazar.

Ironically, the last battle in the war, AD 737, ended in a Khazar defeat. But by that time the impetus of the Muslim Holy War was spent, the Caliphate was rocked by internal dissensions, and the Arab invaders retraced their steps across the Caucasus without having gained a permanent foothold in the north, whereas the Khazars became more powerful than they had previously been.

A few years later, probably AD 740, the King, his court and the military ruling class embraced the Jewish faith, and Judaism became the state religion of the Khazars. No doubt their contemporaries were as astonished by this decision as modern scholars were when they came across the evidence in the Arab, Byzantine, Russian and Hebrew sources. One of the most recent comments is to be found in a work by the Hungarian Marxist historian, Dr Antal Bartha. His book on The Magyar Society in the Eighth and Ninth Centuries[4] has several chapters on the Khazars, as during most of that period the Hungarians were ruled by them. Yet their conversion to Judaism is discussed in a single paragraph, with obvious embarrassment. It reads:

Our investigations cannot go into problems pertaining to the history of ideas, but we must call the reader’s attention to the matter of the Khazar kingdom’s state religion. It was the Jewish faith which became the official religion of the ruling strata of society. Needless to say, the acceptance of the Jewish faith as the state religion of an ethnically non-Jewish people could be the subject of interesting speculations. We shall, however, confine ourselves to the remark that this official conversion — in defiance of Christian proselytizing by Byzantium, the Muslim influence from the East, and in spite of the political pressure of these two powers — to a religion which had no support from any political power, but was persecuted by nearly all — has come as a surprise to all historians concerned with the Khazars, and cannot be considered as accidental, but must be regarded as a sign of the independent policy pursued by that kingdom.

Which leaves us only slightly more bewildered than before. Yet whereas the sources differ in minor detail, the major facts are beyond dispute.

What is in dispute is the fate of the Jewish Khazars after the destruction of their empire, in the twelfth or thirteenth century. On this problem the sources are scant, but various late mediaeval Khazar settlements are mentioned in the Crimea, in the Ukraine, in Hungary, Poland and Lithuania. The general picture that emerges from these fragmentary pieces of information is that of a migration of Khazar tribes and communities into those regions of Eastern Europe — mainly Russia and Poland — where, at the dawn of the Modern Age, the greatest concentrations of Jews were found. This has lead several historians to conjecture that a substantial part, and perhaps the majority of eastern Jews — and hence of world Jewry — might be of Khazar, and not of Semitic Origin.

The far-reaching implications of this hypothesis may explain the great caution exercised by historians in approaching this subject — if they do not avoid it altogether. Thus in the 1973 edition of the Encyclopaedia Judaica the article “Khazars” is signed by Dunlop, but there is a separate section dealing with “Khazar Jews after the Fall of the Kingdom”, signed by the editors, and written with the obvious intent to avoid upsetting believers in the dogma of the Chosen Race:

The Turkish-speaking Karaites [a fundamentalist Jewish sect] of the Crimea, Poland, and elsewhere have affirmed a connection with the Khazars, which is perhaps confirmed by evidence from folklore and anthropology as well as language. There seems to be a considerable amount of evidence attesting to the continued presence in Europe of descendants of the Khazars.

How important, in quantitative terms, is that “presence” of the Caucasian sons of Japheth in the tents of Shem? One of the most radical propounders of the hypothesis concerning the Khazar origins of Jewry is the Professor of Mediaeval Jewish History at Tel Aviv University, A. N. Poliak. His book Khazaria (in Hebrew) was published in 1944 in Tel Aviv, and a second edition in 1951.[5]

In his introduction he writes that the facts demand — a new approach, both to the problem of the relations between the Khazar Jewry and other Jewish communities, and to the question of how far we can go in regarding this [Khazar] Jewry as the nucleus of the large Jewish settlement in EasternEurope. … The descendants of this settlement — those who stayed where they were, those who emigrated to the United States and to other countries, and those who went to Israel — constitute now the large majority of world Jewry.

This was written before the full extent of the holocaust was known, but that does not alter the fact that the large majority of surviving Jews in the world is of Eastern European — and thus perhaps mainly of Khazar — origin. If so, this would mean that their ancestors came not from the Jordan but from the Volga, not from Canaan but from the Caucasus, once believed to be the cradle of the Aryan race; and that genetically they are more closely related to the Hun, Uigur and Magyar tribes than to the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Should this turn out to be the case, then the term “anti-Semitism” would become void of meaning, based on a misapprehension shared by both the killers and their victims. The story of the Khazar Empire, as it slowly emerges from the past, begins to look like the most cruel hoax which history has ever perpetrated.

2

“Attila was, after all, merely the king of a kingdom of tents. His state passed away — whereas the despised city of Constantinople remained a power. The tents vanished, the towns remained. The Hun state was a whirlwind. …”

Thus Cassel,[6] a nineteenth-century orientalist, implying that the Khazars shared, for similar reasons, a similar fate. Yet the Hun presence on the European scene lasted a mere eighty years,[*] whereas the kingdom of the Khazars held its own for the best part of four centuries. They too lived chiefly in tents, but they also had large urban settlements, and were in the process of transformation from a tribe of nomadic warriors into a nation of farmers, cattle-breeders, fishermen, vine-growers, traders and skilled craftsmen. Soviet archaeologists have unearthed evidence for a relatively advanced civilization which was altogether different from the “Hun whirlwind”. They found the traces of villages extending over several miles,[7] with houses connected by galleries to huge cattlesheds, sheep-pens and stables (these measured 3-3½ x 10-14 metres and were supported by columns.[8] Some remaining ox-ploughs showed remarkable craftsmanship; so did the preserved artefacts — buckles, clasps, ornamental saddle plates.

Of particular interest were the foundations, sunk into the ground, of houses built in a circular shape.[9] According to the Soviet archaeologists, these were found all over the territories inhabited by the Khazars, and were of an earlier date than their “normal”, rectangular buildings. Obviously the round-houses symbolize the transition from portable, dome-shaped tents to permanent dwellings, from the nomadic to a settled, or rather semi-settled, existence. For the contemporary Arab sources tell us that the Khazars only stayed in their towns — including even their capital, Itil — during the winter; come spring, they packed their tents, left their houses and sallied forth with their sheep or cattle into the steppes, or camped in their cornfields or vineyards.

The excavations also showed that the kingdom was, during its later period, surrounded by an elaborate chain of fortifications, dating from the eighth and ninth centuries, which protected its northern frontiers facing the open steppes. These fortresses formed a rough semi-circular arc from the Crimea (which the Khazars ruled for a time) across the lower reaches of the Donetz and the Don to the Volga; while towards the south they were protected by the Caucasus, to the west by the Black Sea, and to the east by the “Khazar Sea”, the Caspian.[†] However, the northern chain of fortifications marked merely an inner ring, protecting the stable core of the Khazar country; the actual boundaries of their rule over the tribes of the north fluctuated according to the fortunes of war. At the peak of their power they controlled or exacted tribute from some thirty different nations and tribes inhabiting the vast territories between the Caucasus, the Aral Sea, the Ural Mountains, the town of Kiev and the Ukrainian steppes. The people under Khazar suzerainty included the Bulgars, Burtas, Ghuzz, Magyars (Hungarians), the Gothic and Greek colonies of the Crimea, and the Slavonic tribes in the north-western woodlands. Beyond these extended dominions, Khazar armies also raided Georgia and Armenia and penetrated into the Arab Caliphate as far as Mosul. In the words of the Soviet archaeologist M. I. Artamonov:[10]

Until the ninth century, the Khazars had no rivals to their supremacy in the regions north of the Black Sea and the adjoining steppe and forest regions of the Dnieper. The Khazars were the supreme masters of the southern half of Eastern Europe for a century and a hall, and presented a mighty bulwark, blocking the Ural-Caspian gateway from Asia into Europe. During this whole period, they held back the onslaught of the nomadic tribes from the East.

Taking a bird’s-eye view of the history of the great nomadic empires of the East, the Khazar kingdom occupies an intermediary position in time, size, and degree of civilization between the Hun and Avar Empires which preceded, and the Mongol Empire that succeeded it.

3

But who were these remarkable people — remarkable as much by their power and achievements as by their conversion to a religion of outcasts? The descriptions that have come down to us originate in hostile sources, and cannot be taken at face value. “As to the Khazars,” an Arab chronicler[11] writes, “they are to the north of the inhabited earth towards the 7th clime, having over their heads the constellation of the Plough. Their land is cold and wet. Accordingly their complexions are white, their eyes blue, their hair flowing and predominantly reddish, their bodies large and their natures cold. Their general aspect is wild.”

After a century of warfare, the Arab writer obviously had no great sympathy for the Khazars. Nor had the Georgian or Armenian scribes, whose countries, of a much older culture, had been repeatedly devastated by Khazar horsemen. A Georgian chronicle, echoing an ancient tradition, identifies them with the hosts of Gog and Magog — “wild men with hideous faces and the manners of wild beasts, eaters of blood”.[12] An Armenian writer refers to “the horrible multitude of Khazars with insolent, broad, lashless faces and long falling hair, like women”.[13] Lastly, the Arab geographer Istakhri, one of the main Arab sources, has this to say:[14] “The Khazars do not resemble the Turks. They are black-haired, and are of two kinds, one called the Kara-Khazars, [Black Khazars] who are swarthy verging on deep black as if they were a kind of Indian, and a white kind [Ak-Khazars], who are strikingly handsome.”

This is more flattering, but only adds to the confusion. For it was customary among Turkish peoples to refer to the ruling classes or clans as “white”, to the lower strata as “black”. Thus there is no reason to believe that the “White Bulgars” were whiter than the “Black Bulgars”, or that the “White Huns” (the Ephtalites) who invaded India and Persia in the fifth and sixth centuries were of fairer skin than the other Hun tribes which invaded Europe. Istakhri’s black-skinned Khazars — as much else in his and his colleagues’ writings — were based on hearsay and legend; and we are none the wiser regarding the Khazars’ physical appearance, or their ethnic Origins.

The last question can only be answered in a vague and general way. But it is equally frustrating to inquire into the origins of the Huns, Alans, Avars, Bulgars, Magyars, Bashkirs, Burtas, Sabirs, Uigurs, Saragurs, Onogurs, Utigurs, Kutrigurs, Tarniaks, Kotragars, Khabars, Zabenders, Pechenegs, Ghuzz, Kumans, Kipchaks, and dozens of other tribes or people who at one time or another in the lifetime of the Khazar kingdom passed through the turnstiles of those migratory playgrounds. Even the Huns, of whom we know much more, are of uncertain origin; their name is apparently derived from the Chinese Hiung-nu, which designates warlike nomads in general, while other nations applied the name Hun in a similarly indiscriminate way to nomadic hordes of all kinds, including the “White Huns” mentioned above, the Sabirs, Magyars and Khazars.[‡]

In the first century AD, the Chinese drove these disagreeable Hun neighbours westward, and thus started one of those periodic avalanches which swept for many centuries from Asia towards the West. From the fifth century onward, many of these westward-bound tribes were called by the generic name of “Turks”. The term is also supposed to be of Chinese origin (apparently derived from the name of a hill) and was subsequently used to refer to all tribes who spoke languages with certain common characteristics — the “Turkic” language group. Thus the term Turk, in the sense in which it was used by mediaeval writers — and often also by modern ethnologists — refers primarily to language and not to race. In this sense the Huns and Khazars were “Turkic” people.[§] The Khazar language was supposedly a Chuvash dialect of Turkish, which still survives in the Autonomous Chuvash Soviet Republic, between the Volga and the Sura. The Chuvash people are actually believed to be descendants of the Bulgars, who spoke a dialect similar to the Khazars. But all these connections are rather tenuous, based on the more or less speculative deductions of oriental philologists. All we can say with safety is that the Khazars were a “Turkic” tribe, who erupted from the Asian steppes, probably in the fifth century of our era.

The origin of the name Khazar, and the modern derivations to which it gave rise, has also been the subject of much ingenious speculation. Most likely the word is derived from the Turkish root gaz, “to wander”, and simply means “nomad”. Of greater interest to the non-specialist are some alleged modern derivations from it: among them the Russian Cossack and the Hungarian Huszar — both signifying martial horsemen;[**] and also the German Ketzer — heretic, i.e., Jew. If these derivations are correct, they would show that the Khazars had a considerable impact on the imagination of a variety of peoples in the Middle Ages.

Some Persian and Arab chronicles provide an attractive combination of legend and gossip column. They may start with the Creation and end with stop-press titbits. Thus Yakubi, a ninth-century Arab historian, traces the origin of the Khazars back to Japheth, third son of Noah. The Japheth motive recurs frequently in the literature, while other legends connect them with Abraham or Alexander the Great.

One of the earliest factual references to the Khazars occurs in a Syriac chronicle by “Zacharia Rhetor”,[††] dating from the middle of the sixth century. It mentions the Khazars in a list of people who inhabit the region of the Caucasus. Other sources indicate that they were already much in evidence a century earlier, and intimately connected with the Huns. In AD 448, the Byzantine Emperor Theodosius II sent an embassy to Attila which included a famed rhetorician by name of Priscus. He kept a minute account not only of the diplomatic negotiations, but also of the court intrigues and goings-on in Attila’s sumptuous banqueting hall — he was in fact the perfect gossip columnist, and is still one of the main sources of information about Hun customs and habits. But Priscus also has anecdotes to tell about a people subject to the Huns whom he calls Akatzirs — that is, very likely, the Ak-Khazars, or “White” Khazars (as distinct from the “Black” Kara-Khazars).[‡‡] The Byzantine Emperor, Priscus tells us, tried to win this warrior race over to his side, but the greedy Khazar chieftain, named Karidach, considered the bribe offered to him inadequate, and sided with the Huns. Attila defeated Karidach’s rival chieftains, installed him as the sole ruler of the Akatzirs, and invited him to visit his court. Karidach thanked him profusely for the invitation, and went on to say that “it would be too hard on a mortal man to look into the face of a god. For, as one cannot stare into the sun’s disc, even less could one look into the face of the greatest god without suffering injury.” Attila must have been pleased, for he confirmed Karidach in his rule.

Priscus’s chronicle confirms that the Khazars appeared on the European scene about the middle of the fifth century as a people under Hunnish sovereignty, and may be regarded, together with the Magyars and other tribes, as a later offspring of Attila’s horde.

5

The collapse of the Hun Empire after Attila’s death left a power-vacuum in Eastern Europe, through which once more, wave after wave of nomadic hordes swept from east to west, prominent among them the Uigurs and Avars. The Khazars during most of this period seemed to be happily occupied with raiding the rich trans-Caucasian regions of Georgia and Armenia, and collecting precious plunder. During the second half of the sixth century they became the dominant force among the tribes north of the Caucasus. A number of these tribes — the Sabirs, Saragurs, Samandars, Balanjars, etc. — are from this date onward no longer mentioned by name in the sources: they had been subdued or absorbed by the Khazars. The toughest resistance, apparently, was offered by the powerful Bulgars. But they too were crushingly defeated (circa 641), and as a result the nation split into two: some of them migrated westward to the Danube, into the region of modern Bulgaria, others north-eastward to the middle Volga, the latter remaining under Khazar suzerainty. We shall frequently encounter both Danube Bulgars and Volga Bulgars in the course of this narrative.

But before becoming a sovereign state, the Khazars still had to serve their apprenticeship under another short-lived power, the so-called West Turkish Empire, or Turkut kingdom. It was a confederation of tribes, held together by a ruler: the Kagan or Khagan[§§] — a title which the Khazar rulers too were subsequently to adopt. This first Turkish state — if one may call it that — lasted for a century (circa 550-650) and then fell apart, leaving hardly any trace. However, it was only after the establishment of this kingdom that the name “Turk” was used to apply to a specific nation, as distinct from other Turkic-speaking peoples like the Khazars and Bulgars.[***]

The Khazars had been under Hun tutelage, then under Turkish tutelage. After the eclipse of the Turks in the middle of the seventh century it was their turn to rule the “Kingdom of the North”, as the Persians and Byzantines came to call it. According to one tradition,[15] the great Persian King Khusraw (Chosroes) Anushirwan (the Blessed) had three golden guest-thrones in his palace, reserved for the Emperors of Byzantium, China and of the Khazars. No state visits from these potentates materialized, and the golden thrones — if they existed — must have served a purely symbolic purpose. But whether fact or legend, the story fits in well with Emperor Constantine’s official account of the triple gold seal assigned by the Imperial Chancery to the ruler of the Khazars.

6

Thus during the first few decades of the seventh century, just before the Muslim hurricane was unleashed from Arabia, the Middle East was dominated by a triangle of powers: Byzantium, Persia, and the West Turkish Empire. The first two of these had been waging intermittent war against each other for a century, and both seemed on the verge of collapse; in the sequel, Byzantium recovered, but the Persian kingdom was soon to meet its doom, and the Khazars were actually in on the kill.

They were still nominally under the suzerainty of the West Turkish kingdom, within which they represented the strongest effective force, and to which they were soon to succeed; accordingly, in 627, the Roman Emperor Heraclius concluded a military alliance with the Khazars — the first of several to follow — in preparing his decisive campaign against Persia. There are several versions of the role played by the Khazars in that campaign which seems to have been somewhat inglorious — but the principal facts are well established. The Khazars provided Heraclius with 40000 horsemen under a chieftain named Ziebel, who participated in the advance into Persia, but then — presumably fed up with the cautious strategy of the Greeks — turned back to lay siege on Tiflis; this was unsuccessful, but the next year they again joined forces with Heraclius, took the Georgian capital, and returned with rich plunder. Gibbon has given a colourful description (based on Theophanes) of the first meeting between the Roman Emperor and the Khazar chieftain.[16]

…To the hostile league of Chosroes with the Avars, the Roman emperor opposed the useful and honourable alliance of the Turks.[†††] At his liberal invitation, the horde of Chozars transported their tents from the plains of the Volga to the mountains of Georgia; Heraclius received them in the neighbourhood of Tiflis, and the khan with his nobles dismounted from their horses, if we may credit the Greeks, and fell prostrate on the ground, to adore the purple of the Caesar. Such voluntary homage and important aid were entitled to the warmest acknowledgements; and the emperor, taking off his own diadem, placed it on the head of the Turkish prince, whom he saluted with a tender embrace and the appellation of son. After a sumptuous banquet, he presented Ziebel with the plate and ornaments, the gold, the gems, and the silk, which had been used at the Imperial table, and, with his own hand, distributed rich jewels and earrings to his new allies. In a secret interview, he produced the portrait of his daughter Eudocia, condescended to flatter the barbarian with the promise of a fair and august bride, and obtained an immediate succour of forty thousand horse…

Eudocia (or Epiphania) was the only daughter of Heraclius by his first wife. The promise to give her in marriage to the “Turk” indicates once more the high value set by the Byzantine Court on the Khazar alliance. However, the marriage came to naught because Ziebel died while Eudocia and her suite were on their way to him. There is also an ambivalent reference in Theophanes to the effect that Ziebel “presented his son, a beardless boy” to the Emperor — as a quid pro quo?

There is another picturesque passage in an Armenian chronicle, quoting the text of what might be called an Order of Mobilization issued by the Khazar ruler for the second campaign against Persia: it was addressed to “all tribes and peoples [under Khazar authority], inhabitants of the mountains and the plains, living under roofs or the open sky, having their heads shaved or wearing their hair long”.[17]

This gives us a first intimation of the heterogeneous ethnic mosaic that was to compose the Khazar Empire. The “real Khazars” who ruled it were probably always a minority — as the Austrians were in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.

7

The Persian state never recovered from the crushing defeat inflicted on it by Emperor Heraclius in 627. There was a revolution; the King was slain by his own son who, in his turn, died a few months later; a child was elevated to the throne, and after ten years of anarchy and chaos the first Arab armies to erupt on the scene delivered the coup de grâce to the Sassanide Empire. At about the same time, the West Turkish confederation dissolved into its tribal components. A new triangle of powers replaced the previous one: the Islamic Caliphate — Christian Byzantium and the newly emerged Khazar Kingdom of the North. It fell to the latter to bear the brunt of the Arab attack in its initial stages, and to protect the plains of Eastern Europe from the invaders.

In the first twenty years of the Hegira — Mohammed’s flight to Medina in 622, with which the Arab calendar starts — the Muslims had conquered Persia, Syria, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and surrounded the Byzantine heartland (the present-day Turkey) in a deadly semi-circle, which extended from the Mediterranean to the Caucasus and the southern shores of the Caspian. The Caucasus was a formidable natural obstacle, but no more forbidding than the Pyrenees; and it could be negotiated by the pass of Dariel[‡‡‡] or bypassed through the defile of Darband, along the Caspian shore.

This fortified defile, called by the Arabs Bab al Abwab, the Gate of Gates, was a kind of historic turnstile through which the Khazars and other marauding tribes had from time immemorial attacked the countries of the south and retreated again. Now it was the turn of the Arabs. Between 642 and 652 they repeatedly broke through the Darband Gate and advanced deep into Khazaria, attempting to capture Balanjar, the nearest town, and thus secure a foothold on the European side of the Caucasus. They were beaten back on every occasion in this first phase of the Arab-Khazar war; the last time in 652, in a great battle in which both sides used artillery (catapults and ballistae). Four thousand Arabs were killed, including their commander, Abdal-Rahman ibn-Rabiah; the rest fled in disorder across the mountains.

For the next thirty or forty years the Arabs did not attempt any further incursions into the Khazar stronghold. Their main attacks were now aimed at Byzantium. On several occasions[§§§] they laid siege to Constantinople by land and by sea; had they been able to outflank the capital across the Caucasus and round the Black Sea, the fate of the Roman Empire would probably have been sealed. The Khazars, in the meantime, having subjugated the Bulgars and Magyars, completed their western expansion into the Ukraine and the Crimea. But these were no longer haphazard raids to amass booty and prisoners; they were wars of conquest, incorporating the conquered people into an empire with a stable administration, ruled by the mighty Kagan, who appointed his provincial governors to administer and levy taxes in the conquered territories. At the beginning of the eighth century their state was sufficiently consolidated for the Khazars to take the offensive against the Arabs.

From a distance of more than a thousand years, the period of intermittent warfare that followed (the so-called ‘second Arab war”, 722-37) looks like a series of tedious episodes on a local scale, following the same, repetitive pattern: the Khazar cavalry in their heavy armour breaking through the pass of Dariel or the Gate of Darband into the Caliph’s domains to the south; followed by Arab counter-thrusts through the same pass or the defile, towards the Volga and back again. Looking thus through the wrong end of the telescope, one is reminded of the old jingle about the noble Duke of York who had ten thousand men; “he marched them up to the top of the hill. And he marched them down again.” In fact, the Arab sources (though they often exaggerate) speak of armies of 100000, even of 300000, men engaged on either side — probably outnumbering the armies which decided the fate of the Western world at the battle of Tours about the same time.

The death-defying fanaticism which characterized these wars is illustrated by episodes such as the suicide by fire of a whole Khazar town as an alternative to surrender; the poisoning of the water supply of Bab al Abwab by an Arab general; or by the traditional exhortation which would halt the rout of a defeated Arab army and make it fight to the last man: “To the Garden, Muslims, not the Fire” — the joys of Paradise being assured to every Muslim soldier killed in the Holy War.

At one stage during these fifteen years of fighting the Khazars overran Georgia and Armenia, inflicted a total defeat on the Arab army in the battle of Ardabil (AD 730) and advanced as far as Mosul and Dyarbakir, more than half-way to Damascus, capital of the Caliphate. But a freshly raised Muslim army stemmed the tide, and the Khazars retreated homewards across the mountains. The next year Maslamah ibn-Abd-al-Malik, most famed Arab general of his time, who had formerly commanded the siege of Constantinople, took Balanjar and even got as far as Samandar, another large Khazar town further north. But once more the invaders were unable to establish a permanent garrison, and once more they were forced to retreat across the Caucasus. The sigh of relief experienced in the Roman Empire assumed a tangible form through another dynastic alliance, when the heir to the throne was married to a Khazar princess, whose son was to rule Byzantium as Leo the Khazar.

The last Arab campaign was led by the future Caliph Marwan II, and ended in a Pyrrhic victory. Marwan made an offer of alliance to the Khazar Kagan, then attacked by surprise through both passes. The Khazar army, unable to recover from the initial shock, retreated as far as the Volga. The Kagan was forced to ask for terms; Marwan, in accordance with the routine followed in other conquered countries, requested the Kagan’s conversion to the True Faith. The Kagan complied, but his conversion to Islam must have been an act of lip-service, for no more is heard of the episode in the Arab or Byzantine sources — in contrast to the lasting effects of the establishment of Judaism as the state religion which took place a few years later.[****] Content with the results achieved, Marwan bid farewell to Khazaria and marched his army back to Transcaucasia — without leaving any garrison, governor or administrative apparatus behind. On the contrary, a short time later he requested terms for another alliance with the Khazars against the rebellious tribes of the south.

It had been a narrow escape. The reasons which prompted Marwan’s apparent magnanimity are a matter of conjecture — as so much else in this bizarre chapter of history. Perhaps the Arabs realized that, unlike the relatively civilized Persians, Armenians or Georgians, these ferocious Barbarians of the North could not be ruled by a Muslim puppet prince and a small garrison. Yet Marwan needed every man of his army to quell major rebellions in Syria and other parts of the Omayad Caliphate, which was in the process of breaking up. Marwan himself was the chief commander in the civil wars that followed, and became in 744 the last of the Omayad Caliphs (only to be assassinated six years later when the Caliphate passed to the Abbasid dynasty). Given this background, Marwan was simply not in a position to exhaust his resources by further wars with the Khazars. He had to content himself with teaching them a lesson which would deter them from further incursions across the Caucasus.

“A Dutch uncle is someone who is believed  to be practical, direct, outspoken, stubborn, well organised, blunt, and thinks he is always right.”

Canada by far has more lakes than any other country in the world and has a large amount of the world’s freshwater.
Canada is one of the world’s wealthiest nations.
Canada is one of the few developed nations that is a net exporter of energy.[34] Canada has vast deposits of natural gas on the east coast and large oil and gas resources centred in Alberta, and also present in neighbouring British Columbia and Saskatchewan. The vast Athabasca Tar Sands give Canada the world’s second largest reserves of oil.[35] In Quebec, British Columbia, Newfoundland & Labrador, Ontario and Manitoba, hydroelectric power is a cheap and relatively environmentally friendly source of abundant energy.
Canada is the world’s largest producer of zinc and uranium and a world leader in many other natural resources such as gold, nickel, aluminum, and lead; many, if not most, towns in the northern part of the country, where agriculture is difficult, exist because of a nearby mine or source of timber.
The motto of Canada is a mari usque ad mare (“from sea to sea”)

Deu 33:1 And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.

Deu 33:4 Moses commanded us a law, even the inheritance of the congregation of Jacob.
Deu 33:5 And he was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together.

Deu 33:6 Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his men be few.

Deu 33:9 Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge hisbrethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant.
Deu 33:10 They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law: they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine altar.

Deu 33:28 Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.
Deu 33:29 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

Deu 34:1 And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan,
Deu 34:2 And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea,

Deu 34:9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.
Deu 34:10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,
Deu 34:11 In all the signs and the wonders, which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,
Deu 34:12 And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel.

“… absolute behavior control is imminent…. The critical point of behavior control, in effect, is sneaking up on mankind without his self-conscious realization that a crisis is at hand. Man will… never self-consciously know that it has happened.”
[1]  Raymond Houghton, ‘To Nurture Humaneness’, ASCD (curriculum arm of the NEA), 1970 “The Protestant Ethic will atrophy as more and more enjoy varied leisure and guaranteed sustenance…. Most people will tend to be hedonistic…”
[2]  ‘Feasibility Study’, Behavioral Science Teacher Education Program (B-STEP), Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Bureau of Research, 1969 “We were trained in all phases of warfare, both psychological and physical for the destruction of the Capitalistic society and Christian civilization. In one portion of our studies we went thoroughly into the matter of psychopolitics. This was the art of capturing the minds of a nation through brainwashing and fake mental health… During the past few years I have noted with horror the increase of psychopolitical warfare upon the American public.”
[3] Kenneth Goff, member of the U.S. Communist Party from 1936 to 1939. “Information is useful only if citizens can put it into a framework of knowledge and use it to solve problems, form values, and make choices. Education for sustainability will help them make individual and collective decisions that both benefit themselves and promote the development of sustainable communities. [It] must involve everyone.”
[4] From the President [Clinton]‘s Council on Sustainable Development which, like other national PCSDs, follows guidelines from the ‘U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development’ (See Local Agenda 21)

Brainwashing is not, as some anti-Christian educators and students contend, the Biblical process of training our children to love and follow God. The word “brainwashing” refers to a planned, step-by-step attempt to “wash” family-taught beliefs from the minds of those who oppose government ideology. In America, it would mean replacing the old Biblical values and world view with a new way of thinking that would support a totalitarian agenda. In other words, every child must become a peace child, a willing and active servant of a New World Order. A massive world-wide partnership is pioneering new strategies for social transformation. The media, the entertainment industry, computer companies, government agencies, educational institutions, the United Nations and its accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have all joined together in a common quest for a global mind change. They seek solidarity — a worldwide unity based on a new set of beliefs and values. “Obsolete” and “exclusive” loyalties to national sovereignty, Biblical values, and the unadulterated U.S. Constitution stand in their way. Conforming the masses to their way of thinking requires all the sophisticated tools and tactics developed at the various “behavioral science research” institutes and “education laboratories” established first in England, then in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, and finally in the United States. If these psycho-social engineers win their battle against an unsuspecting public, they would “wash” away individual thinking, free speech and all the other “rights” that have made America unique. The vacuum would be filled with lofty ideals, enticing images and deceptive promises designed to mold minds that match their global vision. Group thinking and other controls and “incentives” would enforce compliance. (See Mind Control and The UN Plan for Your Mental Health)

Bombard children with mind-changing suggestions A familiar tale told to first-graders in Pennsylvania illustrates both the tactics and the planned transformation of the world. We all know the story of the Little Red Hen who wanted some bread to eat. She asked some of her barnyard friends to help make it. But the cat, the dog, and the goat all said “no.” Finally she did all the work herself. Yet, when the bread was done and its fragrance spread throughout the farm, her unwilling neighbors were more than willing to help her eat it. “Won’t you share with us?” they begged. “No,” she answered. “Since you didn’t help, you don’t get anything.” In the context of traditional values, the moral of the story is: you get what you work for. But those who have learned to think and see from the new global perspective are led to another conclusion. Listen to the kinds of questions the first grade teacher asked her class: “Why was the Little Red Hen so stingy? Isn’t it only right that everyone gets to eat? Why wouldn’t she share what she had with some who had none?” [5] The concerned mother who heard and reported this story asked, “What kinds of values were the children taught?” The new interpretation emphasizes love and sharing, but what is missing? How might it confuse a child’s values? The answers are obvious. The children were taught socialist values. The new interpretation vilified values that had motivated Americans to be diligent, responsible and fair. The teacher’s questions were actually strategic suggestions prompting the group to ridicule traditional values, to see reality and society from the new politically correct perspective, and to intimidate and shame anyone who dared to disagree. A new mental “framework” is vital to this paradigm shift [see chart]. But to launch the new system, the old patterns must be blurred and broken. The educational establishment knows that children who are fed a daily diet of biblical truth will resist their plans for change. They also know that students bombarded with strategic suggestions and idealized pagan images will probably reject Christianity. If schools can build the “right” kind of framework or filter in the minds of children early enough, the new global beliefs will fit right in. In other words, the battle for the hearts and minds of America’s children will be won by the side that first trains children to see reality from its point of view. This paradigm shift was no mystery to Aldous Huxley, author of ‘Brave New World’. He wrote that education must provide a mental “framework… within which any piece of information acquired in later life may find its proper and significant place.” [6] In the old days, that mental framework was the biblical world view. But Huxley, like most of today’s change agents, called for a New Age/global framework. Like a filter, it blocks facts and ideas that don’t fit, but welcomes input that strengthens the framework -especially when communicated through stories and images that stir the imagination and arouse strong feelings.

Focus on feelings, not facts This shift from factual education to feeling and experience-based learning began over seventy years ago. Through the decades, the strategies used to manipulate minds in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany were developed, first at the Tavistock Clinic near London and later at Germany’sFrankfurt School (originally called Frankfurt Institute for Social Research). Their mind-bending methods soon spread to a rising number of psycho-social research centers in America. They were fine-tuned at Columbia, Harvard, Stanford and other American universities, at our regional educational laboratories and at the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies where Elian Gonzales was remediated [indoctrinated, brain washed] in preparation for his return to a Communist system. (See Elian Starts Re-Education) More recently, at the 1989 Governor’s Conference on Education chaired by Bill Clinton, Dr. Shirley McCune, then head of the Mid-Continent Regional Educational Laboratory, summarized the policy in her keynote speech:

“The revolution… in curriculum is that we no longer are teaching facts to children…. We no longer see the teaching of facts and information as the primary outcome of education.” [7]

“What will take the place of logic, fact and analysis in the coming age?” This rhetorical question was raised by Dr. Donald A. Cowan, president emeritus of the University of Dallas. His revealing answer exposes an important step toward the new consensus:

“The central way of thought for this new era will be imagination… Imagination will be the active, creative agent of culture, transforming brute materials to a higher, more knowable state.” [8]

It’s easy to see why visionary change agents would prefer to inspire the imagination rather than teach facts and logic. Unlike facts and convictions, the imagination can easily be manipulated. Today’s popular books, games and other forms of edutainment bring all kinds of suggestions and images that confuse the old ways of thinking and promote the new values. They twist facts, turn right and wrong upside down, stir the imagination with unthinkable suggestions, redefine words, and give new meanings to old images such as the Little Red Hen. (See Establishing a Global Spirituality) Eventually, most students become conditioned to see everything through the new politically correct mental filter. The sight of an old social symbol (i.e. flag) or the sound of an word they have learned to hate (pastor, evil, capitalism, etc.) can now trigger emotional reactions that cannot be resolved with facts and logic. A simple example of this process was exposed by a Christian teacher in Sunnyvale CA. During a public elementary school assembly, the students sang the words of the Peacemakers’ Planetary Anthem to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner. This melody, which has symbolized freedom to those who have loved America, now became a tactical trigger used to turn hearts from the old ways to the new vision:

O Say can you see by the one light in all
A ‘New Age’ to embrace at the call of the nations,
Where our children can play in a world without war
Where we stand hand in hand in the grace of creation,
Where the rivers run clean through forests pristine….

Inspiring, isn’t it? The mental images behind those words illustrate the “visioning” part of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) as well as Total Quality Management (TQM). Both use the consensus process to create the collective consciousness needed for the new communities and social organizations. In the classroom, this process of change often begins with planned “visions” that plant vivid but unrealistic goals into children’s minds and emotions. Next, students must learn to visualize scary images of the current crisis. The crisis is vital to the process. It provides the justification for environmental activism, government control, and unthinkable changes. So, in stark contrast to the lofty ideal in the song above, the students must learn to feel the pain of a dying earth abused by the ruling generation. The colorful classroom manual on global change, Rescue Mission Planet Earth, fits the bill. It is full of scary, sensational pictures and misguided children’s opinions that fire the imagination and fuel anger. Trained teacher/facilitators turn this anger toward parents and grandparents who must bear the blame for destroying our planet. This is important, because -as in totalitarian countries around the world- children must learn to submit to state-defined values and loyalties … not their parents or traditional values. In Rescue Mission Planet Earth, page after page of pseudo-science and twisted facts prepare the reader to follow the call to political action on behalf of the United Nations and planet Earth. Unless they know the facts, children and their teachers will have little resistance to the heart-breaking images of dying trees, starving children, abused women and an overcrowded planet drowning in pollution and rising oceans. It’s all part of the plan: create and/or publicize a crisis, vilify the “enemy of the people”, then market the pre-planned global solution to the world … starting with the children. As in the former Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, the school becomes a boot camp for an army of angry and self-righteous rescuers, ready to argue using their feelings, not facts, against anything that opposes their new and narrow idealism. (See third point in Paradigm Shift) Rescue Mission Planet Earth is nothing less than “the children’s version” of the United Nations’ Agenda 21. Sponsored by UNESCO and other UN agencies and promoted by the President’s Council on Sustainable Development (see Local Agenda 21), the propaganda-filled children’s book helps create the needed “gap” between inspiring visions and a perceived crisis scary enough to evoke strong feelings, change values and motivate children to government-led social action. “We have to re-orient education so that we turn out planetary carers (sic),” explained David R. Woollcombe [9], President ofPeace Child International and head of the Rescue Mission Planet Earth project. He also serves as Consultant to the Global Vision Corporation,[10] a massive international NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) accredited to the UN Commission on Sustainable Development. Behind the backs of parents around the world, it works to transform the goals, the methods, the leaders, and the process of education. “And that,” continued Mr. Woollcombe,

“…requires, as Agenda 21 said, a re-orientation of education towards sustainable development. It’s a revolution we’re talking about here! It’s going to require new materials, it’s going to require much greater involvement by young people themselves in their own teaching and education, because actually, adults don’t know as much and don’t care as much about the environment as many young people do. And it’s going to require a much better sort of facultative education, where teacher and students together are on this exploratory journey about how you can square the circle between economic growth and prosperity….” [11]

Before you dismiss Global Vision’s power and influence, consider a few of its partners and sponsors. They include UN agencies such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Centre for Human Settlements and the UN Centre for Human Rights. It also includes numerous foundations, environmental groups, educational institutions, and media and corporate giants such as the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Princeton University Centre of International Studies, Columbia University Department of Religion, Mystic Fire Video, Apple Computer, Sun Microsystems, The Image Bank, Bell Labs, Robert Muller, Noel Brown, Federico Mayor, Nafis Sadik, Maurice and Hanne Strong (See World Heritage “Protection?”), Gro Harlem Brundtland (Head of The World Health Organization), the Dalai Lama, and movie moguls Bernardo Bertolucci and Martin Scorsese. All have joined their talents and resources in a common pursuit of the global consciousness envisioned by the United Nations.

A “new way of thinking” In 1994, President Clinton’s Council on Sustainable Development took a big step toward that global vision. It met with an influential group of like-minded change agents at the Presidio – the former army base in San Francisco that now houses the Gorbachev Foundation USA and dozens of other UN-related organizations. Its partners included the UN Environmental Programme, the EPA, the U.S. Departments of Education, Labor, State and Energy, the Council of Chief State School Officers, the American Federation of Teachers, Stanford, Colombia and other major universities, the Sierra Club… and the organizers of the Rescue Mission Planet Earth project. Their joint report, “Education for Sustainability,” became a model for sustainable education. Quoting David Orr, author of Earth in Mind, it states,

“One result [of formal] education is that students graduate without knowing how to think in whole systems, how to find connections, how to ask big questions, and how to separate the trivial from the important. Now more than ever, however, we need people who think broadly and who understand systems, connections, patterns and root causes.” [12] emphasis added “Root causes” involve far more than ecology. Anything that blocks the general acceptance of the new global ideology is suspect and must be challenged. Traditional beliefs and values rank high on the list of villains to their vision of peace. For example, an international “Declaration on Tolerance,” prepared by UNESCO and signed by its member nations, shows one of the major “root causes:”

  • “Tolerance involves the rejection of dogmatism and absolutism.”
  • “Scientific studies and networking should be undertaken to coordinate the international community’s response to this global challenge, including analysis of root causes and effective countermeasures, as well as research and monitoring… “
  • “Promote rational tolerance teaching methods that will address the cultural, social, economic, political and religious sources of intolerance, major roots of violence and exclusion.” Emphasis added [13]

The earlier statement from Education for Sustainability stressed the “need” for “people who think broadly and who understand systems, connections, patterns and root causes” from a predetermined perspective. This kind of thinking is — and always have been – crucial to brainwashing in totalitarian regimes with a global mission. A basic goal of UNESCO’s worldwide program for “lifelong learning” was summarized in ‘Our Creative Diversity’, the 1995 book-sized report from the UN Commission on Culture and Development. Published by UNESCO, it tells us that,

“The challenge to humanity is to adopt new ways of thinking, new ways of acting, new ways of organizing itself in society, in short, new ways of living.” [14]

This “new way of thinking” has become the standard for mental health in America. (See The UN Plan for Your Mental Health) As head of the Department of Health and Human Services, Donna Shalala helped organize The National Mental Health Services Knowledge Exchange Network. Ponder its definition for mental health:

“Mental health refers to how a person thinks, feels, and acts when faced with life’s situations. It is how people look at themselves, their lives, and the other people in their lives …and explore choices.” [15]

Do you wonder what Dr. Shalala and her network of health planners would consider good thinking? Or bad thinking? This definition doesn’t tell us. But Al Gore’s 1992 best-seller, ‘Earth in the Balance‘, helps answer the question:

“The fifth major goal of the Global Marshall Plan should be … to organize a worldwide education program to promote a more complete understanding of the crisis. In the process, we should actively search for ways to promote a new way of thinking about the current relationship between human civilization and the earth.” [16]

Vice-President Gore was referring to an environmental crisis with psychological overtones. As we pointed out in the article on Al Gore’s Vision of Global Salvation, he has diagnosed our basic social problem in America and suggested a solution:

“…we feel increasingly distant from our roots in the earth…we lost our feeling of connectedness to the rest of nature.”[17] “The richness and diversity of our religious tradition throughout history is a spiritual resource long ignored by people of faith, who are often afraid to open their minds to teachings first offered outside their own system of belief. But the emergence of a civilization in which knowledge moves freely and almost instantaneously throughout the world has… spurred a renewed investigation of the wisdom distilled by all faiths. This panreligious perspective may prove especially important where our global civilization’s responsibility for the earth is concerned.” [18] emphasis added

Al Gore’s “panreligious perspective” has helped lay the foundation for a global environmental ethic. His vision of a “world education program” is nearing reality. It fits right into the United Nations’ education system. This “seamless system” of partnerships and governmental agencies around the world has two main goals:

In other words, people must learn “to look at themselves” as part of the collective society, not as individuals. Their sense of worth must be based on participation in the community and compliance with the new ideology, not on individual beliefs or independent choices. A continual barrage of classroom “assessments” and surveys must test and track how children and their parents think, “explore choices” and draw conclusions. To win this battle for the minds of the world, the United Nations and its powerful partners have agreed to put aside integrity and employ any possible means to reach their end. But they must still must operate according to guidelines that demand, at least, a perception of the consent of the masses. Therefore, the means to their end must be both subtle and deceptive, employing all the skills and strategies proven successful in the totalitarian countries of the 20th century. Al Gore summarized the attitude behind this global agenda well:

“Adopting a central organizing principle – one agreed to voluntarily – means embarking on an all-out effort to use every policy and program, every law and institution, every treaty and alliance, every tactic and strategy, every plan and course of action – to use, in short, every means to halt the destruction of the environment… Minor shifts in policy, moderate improvement in laws and regulations, rhetoric offered in lieu of genuine change—these are all forms of appeasement, designed to satisfy the public’s desire to believe that sacrifice, struggle and a wrenching transformation of society will not be necessary.” [19] Emphasis added

Our leaders have already shown us that Al Gore’s words, “every tactic and strategy…” includes compromise, lies, deception, and propaganda. Where Biblical values have been dismissed as obsolete, these tactics seem are perfectly acceptable to those who lead this spiritual and psychological war for control of the masses. The UN, with help from the Clinton-Gore administration, have already re-invented the concept of government. Its new global management system would be based on its principle of sustainable development or rather, the 3 E’s: Environment, Economy and Equity. It means using a grossly exaggerated view of the environmental “crisis” to re-educate the masses, persuading them to accept totalitarian tactics for redistributing the world’s economic resources and creating socialist equality. (See Local Agenda 21- The U.N. Plan for Your Community). Take a look at the envisioned world of the 21st century:

OLD PARADIGM NEW PARADIGM
BELIEFS Based upon the Bible Blend of ‘New Age’ and
earth-centered religions
CULTURE Western individualism Global solidarity
VALUES Based upon the Bible
(absolute, unchangeable truth)
Based upon human idealism
(easy to manipulate)
MORALS Moral boundaries Sensual freedom
RIGHTS Personal freedom Social controls
ECONOMY Free enterprise Socialist collective
GOVERNMENT By, and for, the people By, and for, those who control
the masses

The masses would be controlled through the Hegelian dialectic (consensus) process by globalist leaders who would view the world through the new filter of globalism. Polls, propaganda, simple slogans, and continual conflicts would be essential to its success. In fact, the greater the perceived crisis, the faster the leader can assume the coveted political powers that true freedom forbids. President Clinton has already mastered these totalitarian strategies, as Mikhail Gorbachev suggested in a 1993 editorial:

“Bill Clinton will be a great president if he can make America the creator of a new world order based on consensus.”[20]

Remember, consensus demands a felt crisis, and today’s moral crisis – created by trading moral boundaries for sensual freedom – serves the purpose well. The absence of absolute boundaries leads to social chaos which, in turn, calls for social controls that would have been unthinkable under the old paradigm. In other words, the official promotion of sensual indulgence serves a political purpose. Aldous Huxley summarized it well in ‘Brave New World‘:

“As political and economic freedom… diminishes, sexual freedom tends compensatingly to increase. And the dictator… will do well to encourage that freedom. In conjunction with the freedom to daydream under the influence of dope, movies and the radio, it will help to reconcile his subjects to the servitude.”[21]

Psalm 2 fit our times:

Why do the nations rage and the people plot a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together,
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.”
He who sits in the heavens shall laugh….
Then He shall speak to them in His wrath
And distress them in His deep displeasure:
“Yet I have set My King on My holy hill of Zion.” ….
Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

The Frankfurt Institute: According the Encyclopedia of Marxism, “The Institute for Social Research was founded in 1923 by Felix Weil to be an independent academy for Marxism intended to rival any University in the standards of scholarship, and the institute carried out important research on the history and condition of the German workers’ movement. It was possibly the first body to use opinion polls as a research tool.” Max Horkheimer (1895-1973), a German philosopher and social scientist directed the Institute from 1930 to 1958. He was a “close associate of Theodor Adorno, who mixed Marxism with influences as diverse as Schopenhauer, Dilthey, Nietzsche and Freud.” “After the 1923 defeat of the German Revolution, Horkheimer, and other members of the Institute to some degree, drew the conclusion that the working class could never be the vehicle for social change simply as a result of its position within the production process, and concluded that only the development of theory itself could be the scene of liberation. Horkheimer co-authored Dialectic of Enlightenment with Theodor Adorno while in the US during the 1940s…. In 1949, Horkheimer returned to Frankfurt and re-established the Institute, and retired to Switzerland in 1958.” “Others to be associated with the Institute as well as Horkheimer and Adorno included Leo Lowenthal, Raymond Aron, Erich Fromm, Herbert Marcuse, Walter Benjamin and Ernst Krenek.” http://marxists.org/glossary/people/h/o.htm Marxist philosopher Herbert Marcuse (1898-1979) co-founded the Frankfurt Institute. The Encyclopedia of Marxism reports that…

“He fled to Geneva in 1933 when Hitler came to power, then went to the United States in 1934, where he taught at Columbia University and became a US citizen in 1940. His Reason & Revolution, written in 1941, made an important contribution to the understanding of Hegel and his influence on Marx. “An intelligence analyst for the U.S. Army during World War II, he headed the Central European Section of the Office of Intelligence Research after the war. He returned to teaching in 1951 at Columbia and Harvard, Brandeis University (1954-65), and the University of California at San Diego (1965-76), where after retirement he was honorary emeritus professor of philosophy until his death. “A Hegelian-Freudian-Marxist, Marcuse highlighted the cultural forms of repression and the role of technology and the expansion of the production of consumer goods in the maintenance of the stability of capitalism.”

Book: The Earth’s Earliest Ages

Chapter 8

By G.H. Pember

The sixth chapter of Genesis contains an account of the days of Noah, a description of momentous interest to us: for our Lord has declared that a similar epoch of worldliness will at length exhaust the forbearance of God towards the present dwellers upon earth, and cause Him to come with fire, and with His chariots like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire; to plead with all flesh by fire and by His sword (Isa. lxvi. 15, 16).

  1. For behold, the LORD will come with fire And with His chariots, like a whirlwind, To render His anger with fury, And His rebuke with flames of fire.
  2. For by fire and by His sword The LORD will judge all flesh; And the slain of the LORD shall be many.
  3. —  Isaiah 66:15-16

It becomes, therefore, an obvious duty to consider the progress of wickedness and corruption among the antediluvians, so far as it has pleased God to inform us of it: to acquaint ourselves not merely with the sowing but also with the watering, the growth, and the ripening, of that hideous crop against which the gleaming sickle of the Almighty at length flashed forth from heaven; to note the various incentives to evil as they successively appeared, and to observe the particular influence of each upon the rapidly decomposing masses of society. For by so doing we shall arm ourselves against the errors and temptations which are daily multiplying around us, and be enabled to discern the threatening signs of our own times.   Now, the first-mentioned characteristic of those former days of wickedness and peril is the rapid increase of population,

  1. Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them,
  2. —  Genesis 6:1

[This is] a circumstance which in itself has ever tended not merely to diffuse but at the same time to intensify sin. For every form of evil which exists in thinly populated countries will also be found where men have multiplied; where there are countless vices peculiar to crowded districts. And, if they are numerous, men support each other in rebellion, and are prone to become far more daring and defiant of God. Among ourselves, the strongholds of rationalism and atheism are always to be found in large cities. But while the families of the earth were thus increasing in number, they were at the same time making vast progress in civilization and knowledge. Cain had taught them to settle in communities and build cities.

  1. And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son — Enoch
  2. —  Genesis 4:17

And the sons of Lamech —speedily followed, no doubt, by many others— had introduced the mechanical and fine arts, and had devised unlawful means of evading the labour imposed by the curse.

  1. And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.
  2. His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute.
  3. And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
  4. —  Genesis 4:20-22

And in that age, when, instead of being cut off at three score and ten [70] or four score [80], men lived on for nearly a thousand years, their immense accumulation of knowledge, experience, and skill must have advanced science, art, and the invention and manufacture of all the appliances of a luxurious civilization, with a rapidity to us almost inconceivable.1

1 [ Pember's suggestion of life before the Flood has been confirmed by knowledge since gained from the lower strata of Mesopotamia. The "17th century" of Pember has been corrected to the "27th century" ]

The one recorded specimen of antediluvian industry, the ark, was built by a Sethite; and yet it equalled in size the Great Eastern, the ship which but a few years ago afforded such marvel to ourselves. And doubtless many of the mighty labours accomplished by the earlier descendants of Noah may be considered to have sprung from reminiscences of pristine grandeur, and fragments of lore, handed down by forefathers who had passed a portion of their existence in the previous age of human glory and depravity. Such may have been the daring conception of a literally cloud-capped tower; the stupendous and splendidly decorated edifices of Babylon and Nineveh; and the wondrous structure of the first pyramid, involving, as it apparently does, an accurate knowledge of astronomical truth which would seem to have been at least on a level with the vaunted advances of modern science. For all these great efforts, be it remembered, were in progress during the lifetime of Shem, and probably in that of his brothers also. Nor must we forget recent discoveries in regard to the primeval civilization of the Accadians, “the stunted and oblique-eyed people of ancient Babylonia,” whose very existence was unknown to us fifty years ago. Their language was dying out, and had become a learned dialect, like the Latin of the Middle Ages, in the 27th century before Christ. And yet so great had been their intellectual power that the famous library of Agadé, founded by Sargon I [2650 B.C.] was stocked with books “which were either translated from Accadian originals or else based on Accadian texts, and filled with technical words which belonged to the old language.” A catalogue of the astronomical department, which has been preserved, contains a direction to the reader to write down the number of the tablet or book which he requires, and apply for it to the librarian. “The arrangement,” says Sayce, “adopted by Sargon’s librarians must have been the product of generations of former experience.” Could we have a stronger proof “of the development of literature and education, and of the existence of a considerable number of reading people in this remote antiquity?” According to Berosus there was an antediluvian “Town of Books” in Babylonia; and Sisuthrus —the Chaldean Noah— “is made to bury his books at Sippara before the Deluge, and to disentomb them after the descent from the Ark.” But, apart from tradition, we have evidence that in very early times there were well-known libraries at Erech, Ur, Cutha, and Larsa, to which observatories and universities were attached (see Sayce’s Babylonian Literature). If, then, we give but fair weight to these considerations, we seem compelled to admit that the antediluvians may have attained to a perfection in civilization and high culture which has scarcely yet been recovered, much as we pride ourselves upon our own times. Since we have no further mention of the Cainites as a separate tribe, and since of the Sethites —who must also have increased in numbers— but one person was translated to God from the evil to come, and only eight were saved through that evil, it is clear that the two families had at length mingled and intermarried. Seduced, probably, by the intellectual pursuits, the gay society, and the easy life, of the wicked, the Sethites first found a pleasure in their company, their luxuries, and their many skilful and ingenious inventions; were then enticed to yoke themselves unequally with unbelievers; and so, being drawn into the vortex of sin, disappeared as a separate people. Sad and instructive was the result of this amalgamation: for when the time of dividing came, no true worshippers of Jehovah were to be found save in the single family of Noah. Men seem to have so prized their own wisdom, to have thought so little of God, that their religion had dwindled to a mere hero-worship of their own famous leaders, those who, Prometheus-like, brought to them by their inventions the necessaries and comforts of life, and so enabled them for the time to foil the purposes of the Supreme Power.

  1. There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown
  2. —  Genesis 6:4

Then, a new and startling event burst upon the world, and fearfully accelerated the already rapid progress of evil.

  1. The sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose
  2. —  Genesis 6:2

These words are often explained to signify nothing more than the intermarriage of the descendants of Cain and Seth; but a careful examination of the passage will elicit a far deeper meaning. When men, we are told, began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, the sons of God saw the daughters of men (Gen. vi. i, 2).

  1. Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them,
  2. that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.

Now, by “men” in each case the whole human race is evidently signified — the descendants of Cain and Seth alike. Hence the “sons of God” are plainly distinguished from the generation of Adam. Again, the expression “sons of God” ( Elohim ) occurs but four times in other parts of the Old Testament, and is in each of these cases indisputably used for angelic beings. Twice in the beginning of the Book of Job we read of the “sons of God” presenting themselves before Him at stated times, and Satan also comes with them as being himself a son of God, though a fallen and rebellious one.

  1. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them
  2. —  Job 1:6

  1. Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD
  2. —  Job 2:1

For the term “sons of Elohim” —the mighty Creator— seems to be confined to those who were directly created by the Divine hand, and not born of other beings of their own order. Hence, in Luke’s genealogy of our Lord, Adam is called a “son of God”.

  1. [ Cainan ] the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God
  2. —  Luke 3:38

And so, also Christ is said to give to them that receive Him power to become the sons of God.

  1. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become “children of God”, to those who believe in His name
  2. —  John 1:12

For these are born again of the Spirit of God as to their inner man even in the present life. And at the resurrection they will be clothed with a spiritual body, a building of God

  1. For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens
  2. —  2 Corinthians 5:1

so that they will then be in every respect equal to the angels, being altogether a new creation

  1. nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection
  2. —  Luke 20:36

The third repetition of the phrase occurs in a later chapter of Job, where the morning stars are represented as singing together, and the sons of God as shouting for joy, over the creation of our earth

  1. And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it”
  2. —  Job 1:7

And, lastly, the same expression is found in the Book of Daniel,

  1. “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”
  2. —  Daniel 3:25

but in the singular number, and with the necessary difference that “bar” is the word used for “son” instead of “ben”, the singular of the latter being unknown in Chaldee. Nebuchadnezzar (correct spelling is Nebuchadrezzar) exclaims that he sees four men walking in the midst of the fire, and that the form of the fourth is like a “son of God”, [ There is no definite article in the original ] by which he evidently means a supernatural or angelic being, distinct as such from the others. It appears, therefore, that in the Old Testament the title “sons of God— is restricted to angels.2

2 This is the view taken by Josephus, Philo Judæus, and the authors of ‘The Book of Enoch’ and ‘The Testament of the Twelve Patriarchs’; indeed, it was generally accepted by learned Jews in the early centuries of the Christian era. In regard to the Septuagint, all manuscripts render the Hebrew “sons of God” by “angels of God” in Job 1:6, and 2:1 , and by “My angels” in Job 38:7 — passages in which there was no dogmatic reason for tampering with the text. In Gen. 6:2 & 4, the Codex Alexandrinus and three later manuscripts exhibit the same rendering, while others have “sons of God”. Augustine, however, admits that in his time the greater number of copies read “angels of God” in the latter passage also (De Civit. Dei, 15:23). It seems, therefore, extremely probable that this was the original reading; and certainly the interpretation which it involves was adopted by the majority of the earlier christian writers. Those who would pursue this subject further can do so in a recent and exhaustive treatise by the Rev. John Fleming, entitled, ‘The Fallen Angels and the Heroes of Mythology’.

Several, passages are indeed adduced to prove its application to men: but upon examination they will all be found wide of the mark, the words of the original being in every case different, and sometimes signifying “sons of Jehovah”. This last, as we have already seen, is a very different expression, and would probably have been used by the inspired historian in the verse under our consideration if he had wished to distinguish the godly descendants of Seth from the Cainites. For, while it forms a true description of all saints upon earth, it would have been in this place peculiarly appropriate to the Sethites just after the mention of the fact that they had been wont from the birth of Enos to call upon the name of Jehovah. It thus appears that the sons of God are angelic beings: and the mysterious statement respecting them in the 6th chapter of Genesis seems to refer to a second and deeper apostasy on the part of some of the High Ones on high. But these more daring rebels are not found among the spirits of darkness which now haunt the air. They no longer retain their position as principalities and powers of the world, or even their liberty; but may be identified with the imprisoned criminals of whom Peter tells us that, after they had sinned, God spared them not, “but cast them down to Hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment [ 2 Peter 2:4 ].”3

3 2 Peter 2:4. The following would be a more literal rendering of the original. “For if God spared not angels when they had sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment.” Tartarus appears to be a place of imprisonment more terrible than Hades [ Hades is Hell ], but it cannot be the Lake of Fire and Brimstone [ Tophet ], the flames of which are to be kindled specially for the Beast and False Prophet, the first who will be cast into it. Compare Isaiah 30:33 [ "For Tophet was established of old, yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made it deep and large. Its pyre is fire with much wood. The breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, kindles it" ] with Revelation 19:20 [ "Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone" ]. In the Greek mythology. Tartarus was a dark abode of woe, as far beneath Hades as Earth is below Heaven (Hom. Il. viii. 16) — a description which fairly corresponds to Peter’s “pits of darkness”. very significant, too, is the fact that it was thought to be the prison of Cronos and the rebel Titans. [ In Greek mythology Cronos is the wily, youngest and most terrible of the children of Uranus, whom he hated. He castrated his father and became ruler of the universe, but was later overthrown by his own son Zeus. The Titans were Cronos' no less evil brothers ]

Jude also mentions their present condition in similar terms [ "And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day." Jude 1:6. Compare with Matthew 25:41 "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels" ], and the context of either passage indicates with sufficient clearness the nature of their sin. They chose to leave their own world and, having broken through God’s limits into another, to go after strange flesh; therefore He dashed them down at once to His lowest dungeons as an instant punishment of their impious outrage, and to deprive them for ever of the power of producing further confusion. The verse following the announcement of the angels’ sin is a parenthesis of solemn import

  1. And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years”
  2. —  Genesis 6:3

The scene is for a moment shifted from the fearfully increasing wickedness of earth and transferred to the Heaven of heavens. There the invisible God sits enthroned and, looking down upon the rebellion and sin beneath Him, pronounces sentence of doom upon the unconscious world. The end must come: His spirit shall not always strive with men, seeing that they are irrecoverably overpowered by the desires of the flesh; yet they shall have a further respite of 120 years. Then the history is resumed with a brief hint at the cause which led to intermarriages between the sons of God and the daughters of men, both before and after the flood [ "There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown " Gen. 6:4 ]. Our translators have again omitted a definite article in the beginning of this verse, which should be rendered, “The Nephilim —or fallen ones— were on the earth in those days, and also afterwards, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men.” Through a misapprehension of the Septuagint, which we will presently explain, the English version renders Nephilim by “giants”. But the form of the Hebrew word indicates a verbal adjective or noun, of passive or neuter signification, from “Naphal”, “to fall”. Hence it must mean “the fallen ones”, that is, probably, the fallen angels. Afterwards, however, the term seems to have been transferred to their offspring, as we may gather from the only other passage in which it occurs. In the evil report which the ten spies give of the land of Canaan, we find them saying: “All the people which we saw in it were men of great stature. And there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, descended from the Nephilim: and we seemed to ourselves as grasshoppers, and so we did to them” ( Numb. 13:32 & 33 ). It was doubtless the mention of the great stature of these men, together with the Septuagint rendering “gigantes”, that suggested our translation “giants”. The roots of the Greek “gigas” have, however, no reference to great stature, but point to something very different. The word is merely another form of “geegenees”: it signifies “earth-born”, and was used of the Titans, or sons of Heaven and Earth —Coelus and Terra— because, though superior to the human race, they were, nevertheless, of partly terrestrial origin. The meaning of “giants” in our sense of the term, is altogether secondary, and arose from the fact that these beings of mixed birth were said to have displayed a monstrous growth and strength of body. It will, therefore, be apparent that the rendering of the Septuagint correctly expresses the idea which was in the mind of the translator, since he appears to have taken Nephilim in each case to signify the offspring of the sons of God and the daughters of men. We, however, as we have explained above, prefer understanding the word primarily of the fallen angels themselves. Now, in speaking of the sin of some of these, Jude ["And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day." Jude 1:6 ] tells us that, despising the position of dignity and responsibility in which God had placed them, they voluntarily left their own home5 in the Kingdom of the Air, prompted it would seem by earthward desires, and began to exercise an unlawful influence over the human race. And, perhaps, as a punishment, their return was prohibited; they were banished altogether from heaven and confined to the limits of earth; just as Satan and the remainder of his angels will be hereafter, a short time before the appearing of Christ to cast them into the still lower abyss. But, however this may be, they were from some cause dwelling upon earth at the time, and the fact is apparently mentioned to account for their inter-marriages with the daughters of men. If, then, their continued residence below was voluntary, they soon passed on to a far more frightful sin: if, on the contrary, it was penal, instead of humbling themselves under the mighty hand of God, and patiently enduring until He remitted His just punishment, they did not hesitate to defy Him still more daringly, and to violate the law of their being.6 The assertion of a similar occurrence after the Deluge agrees with the passage in Numbers where the sons of Anak are said to have been Nephilim, or of the Nephilim [ "There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight." Numbers 13:33 ]; and seems also to account for God’s command that the whole race of the Canaanites should be extirpated. For immediately after the commission of the antediluvian sin, the doom of the world was pronounced: and prophecy intimates that the future confinement of the angels of darkness to earth will be the proximate cause of the great rebellion which will call forth the Lord Jesus in flaming fire to take vengeance [ "Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child." Revelation 12:13 ].

5 [ Or, disrobed themselves of the spiritual body proper to them as beings of heaven, and materialized for themselves an earth-body; for the word used, oikeeteerion, in the only other place in NT. (2 Cor. v. 2) means the heavenly body with which the believer longs to be clothed ]

5 This they did, not merely by consorting with beings of a different order, but also by the very act of marriage itself; since our Lord tells us that, in their normal condition, angels “neither marry”, nor are given in marriage.

  1. “For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in Heaven”
  2. —  Matthew 22:30

The children of these unlawful connections before the Flood were the renowned heroes of old: the subsequent repetition of the crime doubtless gave rise to the countless legends of the loves of the gods, and explains the numerous passages in the Classics, as well as in the ancient literature of other languages, in which human families are traced to a half Divine origin. Before passing on, we should, perhaps, notice the most common objection to our interpretation, which is, that angels, as spiritual beings, could not take wives of the daughters of men. We are, however, unable to recognize the cogency of such an argument, because those who advance it lay claim to a more intimate acquaintance with angelic nature than we can concede as possible. On this point, therefore, we will merely quote a passage from Augustine —an opponent of the angel theory— containing an admission which has been made by many other writers of various ages and climes, and which, absurd as it may have seemed to ourselves some years ago, is now rendered more probable by the disclosures of modern Spiritualism. After citing the 114th Psalm to prove that angels are spirits, the great theologian proceeds as follows (De Civit. Dei, xv. 23). “However, that angels have appeared to men in bodies of such a nature that they could not only be seen but even touched, the same most true Scripture declares. Moreover, there is a very general rumour that Silvans and Fauns, who are commonly termed “incubi” — “improbos sæpe exstitisse mulieribus, et earum appetisse ac peregisse concubitum.” Many trustworthy persons assert that they have had personal experience of this, or that they have been informed by those who have experienced it. And that certain demons, whom the Gauls call “Dusii”, are continually attempting and effecting the crime is so generally affirmed that it would seem impudent to deny it.”6 So Augustine. And that Paul had some such thought in his mind when he bade the woman to worship with covered head “on account of the angels” is, to say the least, within the limits of possibility.

6 To the prevalence of this idea we have no slight testimony in the fact that the name of the demons is one of the Celtic words which have survived in our language. It is the origin of the English Deuse, or Deuce, which is still used in exclamatory or interjectional phrases.

The foundations of established order being thus destroyed by the irruption of the fallen angels, the whole world became corrupt, and its morals were inverted. Men no longer recognized a God to Whom personally all obedience and worship is first due, and Whose equal relation to all men as their Creator imperatively demands from each a love for his neighbour as great as that which he bears to himself. But they judged that whatsoever was pleasant to any man was also right for him; and after thus bursting the bands of God asunder and casting His cords from them, it was not long before they went on to believe that the attainment of a desired end justified every means, that the coveted possession must be secured even if it were necessary to use deceit or violence. Blinded by the selfishness of the flesh, which can see nothing beyond itself, they pursued their several objects without consideration or even thought of their fellows, except when any either stood in the way or might be made subservient. And hence there sprang up a thick crop of frauds and assassinations, of open quarrels and violence, till the whole earth was filled with corruption and bloodshed. And yet all this seems to have existed side by side with luxury, a refined culture, and a love of art and music. Such minglings of things apparently incongruous have not been infrequent in postdiluvial times. The profligacy, immorality, and sensuous intellectuality of Athens is an example. A parallel might also be sought in the descriptions given by Tacitus, Juvenal, and others, of the times of the Cæsars. For then the whole body of society was corrupted, and even the streets of Rome were accustomed to violence. And yet the worst of vices, the most absolute immorality, the most profligate gluttony, the most wanton cruelty, prevailed in company with a splendid magnificence, a high appreciation of music, sculpture, and art generally, and a taste for literature, and especially for poetry, so great that recitations and readings were a common amusement. A very characteristic production of this age was the philosopher Seneca, who has been lately termed a seeker after God, on account of his books on morals, but who did not find the writing of beautiful sentiments any hindrance to a life of shocking depravity, and who presented to the world, as the fruit of his combined teaching and example, the proverbial monster Nero. Nor were the times of Leo X [Pope 1513-1521] without resemblance to the days of Noah; when that famous Pontiff, seated amid every possible sensuous and intellectual refinement, and surrounded by the most brilliant cluster of stars that has ever adorned the firmament of art, exclaimed: “This Christianity! how profitable a farce it has proved to us!” When, in a time which produced paintings, sculpture, and architecture, still marvels to the world, the sun as it rose day by day would expose the floating corpses of the assassinated in the Tiber; and infidelity and lawlessness kept such rapid pace with the culture of the beautiful that even Machiavelli [d. 1527], who will not be accused of too tender a conscience, declared that Italy had lost all principles of piety and all religious feeling; that the Italians had become a nation of impious cut-throats. Such, though on a far greater scale, was the wickedness of the antediluvian world. But the end was approaching. God looked down a second time upon the spreading demoralization beneath Him [ "Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, 'I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast'." Genesis 6:5-7 ], and saw that it would be necessary, at the close of the years of respite, to sweep man and beast, creeping thing and fowl, from the face of the earth. Yet a third time the Creator beheld, and lo! evil had made such fearful progress that all flesh had corrupted its way upon earth [ Genesis 6:6-21 ].

  1. “And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.”
  2. “So the LORD said, ‘I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.’”
  3. “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”
  4. “This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.”
  5. “And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.”
  6. “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.”
  7. “So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.”
  8. “And God said to Noah, ‘The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”
  9. “Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.”
  10. “And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.”
  11. “You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.”
  12. “And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.”
  13. “But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark — you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.”
  14. “And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.”
  15. “Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive.”
  16. “And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.”
  17. —  Genesis 6:5-7

Then He foretold the impending ruin to Noah, who alone found grace in His sight, and instructed him how he might avoid the universal doom. The commands laid upon the patriarch were a strong trial of his faith. He was to proclaim the speedy coming of a catastrophe which to unbelievers would appear simply irrational, of an overwhelming flood which should sweep away all life from the face of the whole earth. It may be that men felt a momentary uneasiness at the first utterance of this prophecy of woe. Discussion may have taken place similar to those among ourselves, when the conjectured possibility of a collision between the earth and Donati’s comet caused a brief anxiety to those who believed in it. But, this qualm over, we can readily picture to ourselves the contempt and derision which must have been poured upon the prophet. Our own times will teach us how the men of science soon proved that such a thing as a universal flood was an absolute impossibility, contrary to all the known laws of nature. And since Noah persisted, the world doubtless settled down into a belief that he was a weak-minded fanatic, void of intellect, and altogether unworthy of notice. But Noah was not only directed to foretell the approaching doom: he was also bidden to make open preparations for avoiding it, preparations, too, of vast magnitude, and such as must have attracted general attention. And a grievous burden it undoubtedly was to endure the scoffs and deridings with which he must have been continually assailed while building his immense ship on the dry land, far, it may be, from any water; but by faith he persevered, and at last the days of his trial drew on to their close. None had listened to his warnings: not one beyond the inner circle of his own family was accounted worthy to be saved. But the ark was now completed, and he was instructed to enter it with his wife, his sons and their wives, and all the creatures which were impelled by God to go with him. He was at no loss to understand the significance of the command; he knew well that the wrath of God was being restrained only till those who should be saved had been taken out of the way; and we can imagine his feelings as he watched the long procession slowly filing into the ark, and at length followed in its rear, leaving the unconscious world, friends and foes alike, in the inexorable grasp of destruction. And yet, as our Lord Himself tells us, the doomed multitudes knew it not. They had often heard, but had refused to listen: the voice of the prophet had seemed to them as the voice of one that mocked. Even on the morning of the fatal day, earth resounded with the noise of revelry and merriment: men were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage: they were absorbed in the pleasures of the moment and discerned not the slowly rising spectre of Death amid the gathering clouds, the destroyer, with uplifted scythe, about to mow down all flesh at one fell stroke. But their dream of security was at length rudely dispelled. On the day in which Noah entered into the ark the windows of heaven were opened, and the waters that were above the firmament began to descend. The world wondered; and then, remembering the words of Noah, trembled at the fast falling raindrops, the first they had ever beheld.7 Nor was this all. A fearful roaring from the sea announced that some mighty convulsion, equally beyond the calculation of the scientific men of the day, had commenced in the great deep.

7 In Genesis 2:5 & 6 we are told that the LORD God had not caused it to rain, but that a mist went up from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. Probably this state of things continued until the flood, when the windows of heaven were for the first time opened[ "This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground." Genesis 2:4-6 ]. The rainbow must have been a new phenomenon when it was given as a token to Noah the words of God imply as much. Besides which, had the how been seen before the flood, its subsequent reappearance could never have suggested security. But if there was no rainbow, there could scarcely have been rain.

All its sealed fountains were bursting up; God had removed the bounds of ocean; its proud waves were no longer stayed, but were rising with prodigious tumult, and beginning to advance again upon the dry land. What scenes of horror must have been presented beneath the dismal rainfall at this awful time. What affrighted groups! What countenances of dismay! What shrieks of terror! What faintings for fear! What headlong flights to any place which appeared to offer safety for the moment! Yet the mercy of God seems even then to have been mingled with His judgment. His mercy devised a doom which, though inexorable and complete, was, nevertheless, not instantaneous, but gave time for repentance before death, that by the destruction of the flesh the spirits of many might be saved. The waters continued to increase: the ark was upborne upon them. and earth was again almost as it had been before the six days of restoration, covered above its highest mountain tops with a shoreless ocean. Woeful was the proof that man, if unrestrained, if left to his own devices, is not merely incapable of recovering his innocence, but will rush madly down the steep of sensuousness and impious self-will until he finds himself engulfed in the abyss of perdition. The trial of freedom had failed. The second of the ages was ended. “As it was in the days of Noah” We have just endeavoured to trace the flow of history from its source to the great catastrophe which swept corruption and violence from the earth. We have seen its clear spring proceeding from the throne of the Everlasting God, and have then lost sight of it as it wound its way through vast regions that may not be trodden by mortal foot. Once or twice we have climbed an accessible height, and from the distance gazed with strained eyes upon something which sparkled in the rays of God’s Word, and which we supposed to be the waters of the river we were seeking: but we could obtain no certain knowledge of the mysterious stream, until we saw its turbid and foaming torrent emerging in fearful cataract from between the dark mountains which concealed its previous course. We have followed it into a land of delight, in which it gradually calmed and brightened again, while its banks teemed with all that is beautiful and lovely. We have traced it as it passed the limits of that joyous realm, and hurried through dry and barren tracts, with ever increasing volume and rapidity, till at length its agitated waters were violently engulfed in the great ocean of the flood. We must not, however, dismiss the story of doom which we have just been considering without some reflections on the solemn warning drawn from it by the Saviour. “But as the days of Noah were”, is His awful declaration,

  1. “But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”
  2. “For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,”
  3. “and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”
  4. — Matthew 24:37-39

Thus the closing scenes of this present age will be a reproduction of the days of Noah. The same intense worldliness, and at last positive inability to care for the things of God, which was displayed by the antediluvians, will also be characteristic of our world when Christ begins the Judgments that will quickly culminate in the Glory of his Appearing. It seems fair, then, to infer that this second manifestation of the spirit that worked in them who were disobedient before the Flood will be effected by a conjunction of causes similar to that which formerly produced it. And hence, as we have already remarked, it becomes a matter of the greatest practical importance to comprehend those causes; for whenever they are again found to be simultaneously affecting the masses of the world’s population, the fact will afford a strong presumption that we are drifting rapidly to the great consummation of wickedness, that the avenging Glory of the Lord is about to be revealed, so that all flesh shall see it together. For us, therefore, the great question is: Are these fatal influences now in operation? Are they more universally characteristic of this epoch than of any other? Mature consideration has impelled many to return an affirmative answer. Let us see whether facts warrant us in holding the same view. It is impossible to exaggerate our interest in the investigation. If the present times are only beginning to take the complexion of those of Noah, they send forth a piercing cry of warning, admonishing us to stand with our loins girded about and our lamps burning, waiting for the summons of the Lord. For He will remove His Church, as He removed Enoch, before the wickedness of man has come to its worst. He will take away that which He Himself has called the Salt of the Earth; and then the corruption of all flesh will go on unchecked, and the world speedily ripen for its doom. The seven great causes of the antediluvian apostasy have been already noticed, and may be summed up as follows.

  1. “A tendency to worship God as Elohim, that is, merely as the Creator and Benefactor, and not as Jehovah the covenant God of mercy, dealing with transgressors who are appointed to destruction, and finding a ransom for them.”
  2. “An undue prominence of the female sex, and a disregard of the primal law of marriage.”
  3. “A rapid progress in the mechanical arts, and the consequent invention of many devices whereby the hardships of the curse were mitigated, and life was rendered more easy and indulgent. Also a proficiency in the fine arts, which captivated the minds of men, and helped to induce an entire oblivion of God.”
  4. “An alliance between the nominal Church and the World, which speedily resulted in a complete amalgamation.”
  5. “A vast increase of population.”
  6. “The rejection of the preaching of Enoch [and Noah], whose warnings thus became a savour of death unto the world, and hardened men beyond recovery.”
  7. “The appearance upon earth of beings from the Principality of the Air, and their unlawful intercourse with the human race.”

These causes concurred to envelop the world in a sensuous mist which no ray of truth could penetrate. They brought about a total forgetfulness of God and disregard of His will; and thus, by removing the great Centre, Who alone is able to attract men from themselves, rendered the dwellers upon earth so selfish and unscrupulous that the world was presently filled with lewdness, injustice, oppression, and bloodshed. It remains, therefore, for us to consider whether similar influences are now acting upon society. And certainly we cannot but confess that the first-mentioned cause is eminently characteristic of our times. For in all the professing Churches of Christendom, as well as among Jews, Mahometans, and Pagans, there are countless and ever-increasing multitudes who go in the way of Cain [ "Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah" Jude 1:11 ], acknowledging the Supreme Being, but not recognizing His holiness and their own depravity, and so denying all necessity of a Mediator between God and man. Many of these are willing to look upon Christ as some great one, and will talk of His wise philosophy and exemplary life: but they neither confess Him to be the Only Begotten Son of the Father, nor feel the need of His atonement. Consequently, they reject His revelation, as an absolute authority at least, trusting rather to the darkness within them which they call light; and thus, closing their eyes to the true relations of man with his Creator, form their own conceptions both of the Deity and of themselves. This involves nothing less than a claim on their part to supreme wisdom and authority: it is moulding an idol out of their own imagination before which to fall down and worship. Nor need we wonder that it leads to a virtual deification of men of transcendent intellect or great renown. Who has not detected the working of this leaven in his own circle? Who has not observed this “pure Theism”, as it is called, rising to the surface in all the sects of Christendom? If the second cause be rightly inferred from the scanty hints given to us, it is also in operation at the present time — for the female sex has certainly commenced a migration into a new sphere and more prominent position. And the looseness in regard to the marriage tie, which has long obtained on the Continent, is now spreading in England also, as we may see from the records of our recently established divorce courts. Nay, there are not wanting those who, instead of fearing to put asunder that which God has joined, openly affirm that wedlock should be a contract, not for life, but only for so long a time as may be agreeable to the contracting parties. At the close of the previous dispensation the same sin was frequent among the Pharisees, who held that divorce is permissible for any reason — even, as Rabbi Akibah shamelessly says, “if a man sees a woman handsomer than his own wife.” Hence the Lord’s continual mention of adultery in His denunciations of the Pharisees: for the marriage after divorce which they legalized, He declared to be criminal. In the wonderful sermon contained in the 15th, 16th, and 17th chapters of Luke, He brings it forward with a startling abruptness, as a most open and undeniable sin, which would at once convict His hearers of having proved as disobedient to the Law and the Prophets as they were to the Gospel [ "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery." Luke 16:18 ]. We know the punishment which quickly overtook them for this and their many other transgressions. In a few short years their lusts were extinguished in their blood, the fair walls and streets of their city were levelled with the ground, their beautiful temple in which they trusted perished in the flames, and the idolatrous shrine of Jupiter rose insultingly upon its ruins. Of the third cause, the spread of science, art, and luxury, it is unnecessary to speak, for none will deny that this is a great characteristic of our days; nay, the fact is a common subject of boasting. And alas! how many instances have we of the self-deifying arrogance which frequently arises from a little knowledge of the laws of nature, or a marked success in those arts, sciences, and philosophies which are the delight of cultivated and refined intellects!8 With what confidence, too, and carelessness do men settle themselves amid the comforts and indulgences of this luxurious age! Seeing good only in the present life, how little thought do they give to God, how deaf are they to any mention of the World to Come! How incredulous, even if their mouths be not filled with mocking, when they hear but a whisper of that tempest of God’s fury which will shortly burst upon the apathetic world, and hurry multitudes away from all that they love into the dungeons of His wrath!

  1. “Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it.”
  2. “Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”
  3. “He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.”
  4. “O house of Jacob, come and let us walk In the light of the LORD.”
  5. “For You have forsaken Your people, the house of Jacob, Because they are filled with eastern ways; They are soothsayers like the Philistines, And they are pleased with the children of foreigners.”
  6. “Their land is also full of silver and gold, And there is no end to their treasures; Their land is also full of horses, And there is no end to their chariots.”
  7. —  Isaiah 2:2-7

9 For let it not be supposed that these remarks are directed absolutely against the pursuit of science and art. They are only intended to refer to the insubordinate and atheistical spirit which seems too commonly to arise from it.

To reproduce the fourth cause the Prince of this World has long been striving, and certainly now seems near to his victory. It is the natural result of the first error, the denial of our position as sinners before God, as doomed to destruction unless a ransom be found. Let the Church surrender that truth, and what hinders her from living in perfect accord with the World? If the practical teaching of religion be that God is fairly satisfied with our conduct, troubles but little about our sins, highly appreciates our works of virtue, even though pride be their mainspring, and looks with pleasure upon bold deeds and intellectual displays, why should such a theology clash with the cravings of fallen men? How could they hate a deity so like to themselves? And have we not been describing the creed of vast numbers in the professing Church? Are not the walls of the city of God thus continually broken down before our eyes, so that the stranger may enter at will? Men do indeed frequent their churches and chapels in crowds. They excite a feeling, which they term religious, by grand buildings, by painted windows, by splendid vestments, by gorgeous ceremonies, by beautiful music, by sentimental or intellectual discourses, and by strong sectarian or political convictions. But if they clothe themselves with the semblance of devotion in their worship, they altogether lose this outward distinction in the world, and bewilder those are honestly asking what they shall do to be saved by plunging into all the gaieties, frivolities. Pursuits, and business, of this life, as if they were to remain among them for ever. They act as though God had promised that they at least should not be hurried out of the world as so many of their fellows are, but should have due warning and ample space and inclination for repentance [ "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:44 ]. They seem to be assured that they will never be unexpectedly startled by the dread sentence, [ "But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you, then whose will those things be which you have provided?'" Luke 12:20 ] nor suddenly appalled by the blast of the archangel’s trumpet, and the thunder of the voice of God. They have conceded that it is rational to seek contentment and pleasure in an existence of awful brevity, which was only granted to them for the decision of one stupendous question, whether it shall be followed by everlasting life, or by shame and everlasting contempt. The powers of the World to Come have lost their hold upon them, they are even as other men. So many points have been yielded, amusements permitted, and vices condoned, that it is almost impossible to distinguish them from non-professors unless they recite their creed. Nay, some would appear to be holding a doctrine of the ancient Gnostics who, denying the resurrection, affirmed that, their spirits being saved, they were at liberty to do what they would with the body, inasmuch as after death they would have no further concern either with it or its deeds. And although many are ready to confess that the Christian must take up his cross, yet being thoroughly satisfied that in these modern times the unwearied zeal of Christ and His apostles would be quite out of place, they can by no means find a cross to bear. If, however, God in His anger smite them with sickness, bereavement, disappointment, or loss, they talk of their trials, and comfort themselves with the thought that they are imitating the Lord by enduring troubles which they cannot in any way avoid. Oh that those who are thus blinded by Satan would consider while there is yet time; would earnestly and prayerfully meditate upon the words of the Lord Jesus, and interpret them by His most holy life! Then would they see the inconsistency of their position, and keenly feel that they have been fulfilling to the letter the prophecy of the last times, that men should have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof.

  1. “Having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”
  2. —  2 Timothy 3:5

For the world will allow the mere statement of any doctrine, provided no attempt be made to put it into practice. It is only when faith begins to produce works that the Christian is confronted with bitter antagonism; when he feels that he must redeem the time because the days are evil, when, being conscious of a dispensation committed to him, he is impelled to preach the Word in season and out of season, to speak as a dying man to dying men, when he can no longer take part in frivolous gaieties or time-killing pleasures, knowing that such things are but as a painted curtain used by the foul fiend to hide from men the brink of death on which they are walking, until the time comes to tear it away and thrust them over the precipice. If any be thus earnestly minded, they will have no difficulty in regard to the line of separation: they will quickly find the cross they have to bear: they will feel that, like their Master, they are not of this world, and will indeed have tribulation in it. But let them be of good cheer, for He is at hand, and great will be their joy at His Coming. Nor are the concessions of the nominal Church in point of doctrine less deplorable than those which concern conduct. We have before seen that men were ever prone to soften and corrupt those parts of God’s Word which oppose their own thoughts and aspirations. But a strange and impious idea now prevalent is destroying the last vestiges of Biblical authority, and sweeping away every remaining barrier to peace between the professing Church and the World, This is a rapidly growing objection to what is called dogma. Now did the objection apply only to the too positive assertion by men of their own opinions, the sentiment would be wholesome; but upon inquiry we discover that “dogma” is practically a conventional term for the revelations and commandments of the Most High God. And many who profess a belief in the Bible, instead of strengthening “the things which remain, that are ready to die” [ "Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God." Revelation 3:2 ], are never weary of admonishing us to be charitable in regard to those who reject every vital doctrine of Scripture, and even deny the Lord Who bought them. We are told that, provided men be “honest”, all will be well with them at last: that we must not be narrow-minded: that there are other entrances into the fold besides the door [ "Then Jesus said to them again, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep'" John 10:7 ] that those are not necessarily thieves and robbers who climb over the wall; but, it may be, bolder and more manly spirits than their fellows. It is easy to see that by such a line of reasoning all power is extracted from the Scriptures. Instead of being recognized as the living Word of Him Who shall hereafter judge the living and the dead by the things which are written in them, they are regarded merely as an ordinary volume of advice to man, who, in assuming the right to accept or reject them at will, arrogantly places the crown of Deity upon his own head. And thus the great means which God has appointed for the separation of His Church from the World is destroyed. The light which reveals the continual peril and the fearful termination of the broad road is put out, and men go heedlessly on, amused with the trifles of the moment, until they fall headlong into the jaws of the pit. Upon the fifth cause there is no need to enlarge. For, without troubling the census papers, almost every Englishman could speak of the rapid growth of his own neighbourhood. Nor has the world ever previously beheld so vast an aggregation of human life as that which our metropolis now exhibits. Yet at the same time crowds of emigrants are leaving the country, and filling the solitary places of the earth. And statistics show that the population of almost every part of the world is also increasing. But, in addition to this, there is a phenomenon of gloomy portent. For, while they multiply, men are also beginning to exhibit impatience of restraint and, since they are learning to act together, and seem to be growing inflated with reliance on their fancied power, they will probably soon go on to deeds of impious daring. Large organizations, which are no longer confined to the frontiers of one people, forebode a second rebellion of Babel. The time of the shaking of all nations is approaching, and the hearts of many are already failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth. Let believers consider their ways for the Lord will shortly descend to see what the children of men are doing. Whenever the Word of God is faithfully preached it cannot return unto Him void. It will accomplish that which He pleases, and prosper in the thing whereto He sent it.

  1. “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
  2. —  Isaiah 55:11

Some effect it must produce upon all who hear. It separates the wheat from the chaff. It either draws men nearer to God, or renders them more callous than before, and prepares them for speedy judgment. Paul says, [ "For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are being saved, and in them that are perishing. To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life" 2 Corinthians 2-15-16 ]. And so the powerful appeals of Enoch, his loud calls to repentance and threatenings of judgment to come, since they were slighted by the world, must have mightily hardened the hearts of men, and caused the Spirit of God to cease striving with them. Very probably many were at first impressed and alarmed: but after a while, when they saw day following day without any sign of the predicted vengeance, they lost their fear. They went back to their favourite sins, as the dog to his vomit. They could no longer be roused as before. They began to be scoffers, and mocked at the most solemn warnings. The demon, who had been for a brief space expelled, returned with seven others more wicked than himself. So, that their last state was worse than the first.

  1. “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’”
  2. “And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order.”
  3. “Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”
  4. —  Luke 11:24-26

In this case also history appears to be repeating itself. For some fifty years God has supplied an unbroken stream of evangelical testimony which has been gradually increasing in power; and there is now sounding forth such a proclamation of the Gospel as the world has never, perhaps, heard since the days of the apostles. The Spirit has fallen upon the Church with Pentecostal vigour: revivals, missions at home and abroad, and the efforts of many individuals, have caused the conversion of thousands. Those who are really Christ’s seem to be strenuously urged by a sense of their responsibilities. They are going out into the streets and lanes, into the highways and hedges, constraining men to come in. The wedding-hall is rapidly filling with guests. And amid the calls to repentance and offers of Grace, amid the mutual exhortations to walk as Children of the Light, there peals forth, waxing ever louder and louder, the solemn cry, “Behold, the Bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet Him”9 [ "And at midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!'" Matthew 25:6 ]; while the testimony of the faithful to the world is assuming its last form: “Fear God, and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment is come”.

  1. “Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting Gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth — to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people —”
  2. “saying with a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water’”
  3. —  Revelation 14:6-7

9 [Probably the strict application of this passage is to an hour still future, quite immediately before the Lord shall come.]

Indications of this new epoch have been growing more and more apparent for some years, and many papers and periodicals have been devoted to the resuscitation of the long-neglected truth so prominently set forth by our Lord and His apostles. Hundreds of hooks and pamphlets have been written on the same subject; while the majority of the later-revival preachers, and a daily increasing number of other witnesses, have promulgated it to such an extent that it would now be difficult to find a moderately intelligent Christian who is ignorant of the great hope, even if he does not accept it as his own. There is also a significant change passing over this testimony, and rendering it far more consistent and powerful. For although but a short time has elapsed since the disagreement of prophetic writers was almost proverbial, the great body of them are now beginning to exhibit a wonderful harmony on all main points, and to proclaim that the solemn event which all should be awaiting is the command that will summon the Church into the presence of her Lord. We may, therefore, in several particulars find a remarkable analogy between the preaching of God’s people in the present time and the prophesying of Enoch before the days of Noah. But the masses of the world are again rejecting God’s more urgent appeals, and, as a natural consequence, His Spirit is ceasing to strive with them. Infidelity and superstition are beginning to overshadow even the most favoured countries of Christendom. In our own land, how great an excitement was caused some twenty years ago by the publication of ‘Essays and Reviews’, but that book, though hailed with such delight by those who were unwilling to submit to the Divine revelation, has now been swept out of memory by the flood of more daring infidel literature which has since been continually issuing from the press. How few of our newspapers, reviews, and periodicals, have escaped the contagion! How great a multitude of propagating secularists does our country contain, from the bold blasphemer coarsely inveighing against the Word of God, and either denying His existence or charging Him with injustice, to the refined and subtle reasoner who would fain make the ineffable light of his Creator pale before the flickering lamp of human intellect! It is, however, needless to enlarge on so obvious a matter, or to waste time in proving the simultaneous spread of Ritualism and Popery, which is now sufficiently evident even to the most careless observer; while in regard to the prevalence of sorcery we shall have more to say anon. Have we not, then, reason to infer both from these apostasies, and from the general resemblance of our days to the perilous times of the end as described by Paul (2 Tim. 3:1-9), that Christendom, as the inevitable punishment of a general rejection of the Gospel, is being judicially blinded and irremediably hardened?

  1. “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.”
  2. “For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,”
  3. “unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,”
  4. “traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,”
  5. “having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”
  6. “For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts,”
  7. “always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
  8. “Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;”
  9. “but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.”
  10. —  2 Timothy 3:1-9

The seventh and most fearful characteristic of the days of Noah was the unlawful appearance among men of beings from another sphere. This —many would quickly reply— is certainly an event which has not yet startled our age, strange as our experiences may be. We have still something at least to await before the completion of that fatal circle of influences which ruined the old world. But a diligent comparison of Scripture with the things that are now taking place among us will give a very different impression, and induce a strong conviction that the advanced posts of this last terrible foe have already crossed our borders. For it is no longer possible to deny the supernatural character of the apostasy called Spiritualism, which is spreading through the world with unexampled rapidity, and which attracts its votaries, and retains them within its grasp, solely by continual exhibitions of the miraculous. It is vain to speak of that power as mere jugglery which has convinced some of the élite of the literary world, which has caught in its meshes many scientific men, who at first only troubled to investigate for the purpose of refutation. Nor indeed can anything be more dangerous than utter incredulity. For the wholly incredulous, if suddenly brought face to face with the supernatural, is of all men the most likely to yield entire submission to the priests of the new wonder. Better far is it to inquire prayerfully whether these things are possible, and if so, in what light the Bible teaches us to regard them. We shall thus be armed against all the wiles of the Devil.
